HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes 06-59 02/10/1959 '----- 1-( Q So hi t ; 0 y\ I ~ - (1 b--- s q WHEREAS, the Illinois State Statutes governing speed limits are not specific as to speed limits on rural roads used by school children, and WHEREAS, the prpsent Illinois State law does not recognize school zones, and WHEREAS, the Mount Prospect Village President and Board of Trustees feel it is in the best interest of public safety of the school children in the Village of Mount Prospect that lower speed limits be provided for in school zones; BE, AND IT IS HERt~Y RESOLVED by the Village President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Mount Prospect: THAT the State of Illinois senators and representatives of the State Legislature for the area of the Village of Mount Prospect be advised that it is the opinion of the corporate authorities that: 1. The Illinois State law be amended to permit and provide for legally enforceable school speed zones of 15 miles per hour limit when schools are in session, and to authorize local municipalities to adopt speed limits for school ar",as wi thin their jurisdiction, and 2. To accomplish this important legislative amendment as promptly as possible in order to avoid possible injuries or fatalities to our school children because of the inadequacy of the present law, and 3. That it is the opinion of the corporate authorities of the Village of Mount Prospect that speed limits of all roads, highways, or streets coming into or within the said Village limits be under the jurisdiction of the Village and not, as in some instances, under the County or State Highway Departments.
