RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, the Mount Prospect Village President and Board of Trustees feel
it is in the public interest and for the public safety of the children in the
Village that the attention of bicycle riding children and their parents be
called to the need for greater care in riding bicycles, and
WHEREAS, it appears that the inspection of bicycles to determine their
mechanical safety and the registration of bicycles for their identification is
desirable, and
WHEREAS, it is believed that periodic talks on bicycle riding safety in the
schools can be made more meaningful if at the same time pamphlets containing rules
for safe bicycle riding are distributed, and
WHEREAS, the Safety Councils of the Parent Teachers' Association and school
officials have pledged their support in a bicycle safety program,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Village President and Board of Trustees
of the Village of Mount Prospect, Cook County, Illinois, that it is in the public
interest and for the public safety of citizens of Mount Prospect that a bicycle
riding safty program be established.
RESOLVED FURTHER that to implement such a program all bicycles owned and
operated in Mount Prospect shall be inspected for mechanical safety and registered
for identification.
RESOLVED FURTHER ~hat the offers of assistance of the school officials and
Parent Teachers' Association in registering bicycles and in a bicycle riding
safety program be accepted.
RESOLVED FURTHER that the Village Manager
(a) provide speakers on bicycle riding safety for school
and civic meetings;
(b) prepare for distribution a pamphlet containing rules for
safe bicycle riding;
(c) provide the necessary forms for recording safety inspection
data and registration of bicycles
(d) provide a reflecting registration number to be attached to
the rear mudguard of
all bicycles.
