Sterling Morton proposed to the Nebraska Board of Agriculture that a special day be set as ide for the planting of trees; and WHEREAS, this holiday, called Arbor Day, was first observed with the planting of more than a million trees in Nebraska; and WHEREAS, Arbor Day is now observed throughout the nation and the world; and WHEREAS, trees can cut heating and cooling costs, clean the air, provide habitat for wildlife, beautify our community, and produce life-giving oxygen; and WHEREAS, trees are a renewable resource giving us paper, food, wood for our homes and fuel for our fires. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Irvana K. Wilks, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby proclaim Friday, April 30, 2010, as "ARBOR DA Y" in the Village of Mount Prospect and I urge all citizens to observe Arbor Day by attending the ceremonial tree-planting at St. Raymond School, 300 South Elmhurst Avenue, on Friday, April 30,2010, at 1:30 p.m. Irvana K. AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 13 OF THE VILLAGE CODE OF MOUNT PROSPECT BE IT ORDAINED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS ACTING IN THE EXERCISE OF THEIR HOME RULE POWERS: SECTION ONE: That in accordance with Subsection A of Section 13.108 of Chapter 13 of the Village Code of Mount Prospect, as amended, the Corporate Authorities shall determine the number of Liquor Licenses available in each Classification and shall establish a list specifying the number of Liquor Licenses authorized. Said list is hereby amended by decreasing the number of "Class P-1" Liquor License by One (1) RMS LIQUORS INC. d/b/a RMS LIQUORS at 1714 E. Kensington Road. WILKS AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES FROM: VILLAGE MANAGER DATE: APRIL 14, 2010 SUBJECT: D&H LIQUORS 1714 E. KENSINGTON ROAD NEW CLASS "p1' LICENSE On Thursday, April 14, the Village Manager met with Monsieur's Davendra Patel, Dharmendra Patel and Hitesh Patel to discuss their request for the creation of a new "p1" liquor license. They are contemplating the purchase of the existing RMS Liquors located at the above address. The Class "p1" license provides for the retail sales of alcoholic liquors on a package basis. In 2005, the Village limited the number of Class "p1" license to the five currently in force. This Class "p1" is one of five currently available in the Village. Mr. Davendra Patel plans to continue operating the liquor store with no remodeling or other alterations. Mr. Patel's cousin Dharmendra will operate the store. All three gentlemen have experience in liquor sales. Davendra has managed Jays Liquors in Mount Prospect for 13 years, Dharmendra has managed Binny's liquors in Des Plaines for 8 years and Hitesh has been a manager for a liquor store in Waukegan for 6 years. The Village Manager discussed at length with Mr. Patel the Village's Liquor Code and in particular concerns regarding sales to minors as well as clearly intoxicated individuals. The requirements of the Villages' Fight Ordinance were also reviewed. It was emphasized that the license holders were strictly responsible for the actions of their employees. Mr. Patel and his partners indicated they had read the Liquor Code and understood the requirements of same. A completed application along with fees and other documentation have been submitted to the Village. Mr. Patel along with his brother and cousin have submitted to fingerprinting and background checks. All have completed a certified liquor server's course. Should the Board consider this request favorably, adoption of an Ordinance creating a new Class "p1" license would be in order.
