HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes 15-62 08/07/1962 RESOLUTION NO. 15-62 RESOLUTION REQUESTING RELEASE OF FUNDS FOR WELLER CREEK IMPROVEMENT WHEREAS, the drainage pattern of the Northwestern Suburban Community including the Villages of Mount Prospect and Arlington Heights and the City of Des Plaines utilizes Weller Creek as an outlet for storm water; and WHEREAS, there is a great need for the improvement of Weller Creek in order to facilitate the storm water drainage of said Northwestern Suburban Community including the provision of a diversion channel; and WHEREAS, the General Assembly of the State of Illinois has taken note of the need for said improvements and pursuant to the recommendation of the Division of Waterworks of the State of Illinois has appropriated the sum of $1,372,000.00 for certain stages of a Weller Creek Improvement Program, which funds have been frozen by order of His Honor Otto Kerner, Governor of the State of Illinois; and WHEREAS, the increased development of said Northwestern Suburban Community including the Villages of Mount Prospect and Arlington Heights and the City of Des Plaines has intensified the great need for the improvement of Weller Creek in order to provide adequate storm water drainage for said area; and WHEREAS, prompt and immediate action is necessa~ to provide such improvements to prevent the further flooding of said area; and WHEREAS, the Villages of Mount Prospect and Arlington Heights and the City of Des Plaines have determined that in order to protect the health and property of its citizens, it is necessary that the funds appropriated by the General Assembly be made available for the improvement of Weller Creek pursuant to the plans of the Division of Waterways of the State of Illinois; and WHEREAS, the Villages of Mount Prospect and Arlington Heights and the City of Des Plaines have determined that joint action is required to deal with the problem of drainage in this area and wish to jointly convey to the Governor of the State of Illinois their concern and desires in this matter; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT: Section 1. That the President and Village Board of the Village of Mount Prospect do hereby strongly request and urge the Honorable Otto Kerner, Governor of the State of Illinois, to release and make available for the immediate improvement of Weller Creek, the funds heretofore appropriated for said purpose by the General Assembly of the State of Illinois. - 2 Section 2. That the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Mount Prospect do hereby join with the corporate authorities of the City of Des Plaines and the Village of Arlington Heights in urging that all necessary steps be taken to complete in the shortest possible time, the entire program contemplated for the improvement of Weller Creek and commonly known as Steps One through Five of the Plan heretofore recommended by the Division of Waterways of the State of Illinois. Section 3. That this resolution be spread in full upon the minutes of the President and the Board of Trustees of the Village of Mount Prospect and a certified copy of this resolution be transmitted to the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Arlington Heights and the Mayor and City Council of the City of Des Plaines, and further, that a certified copy of this resolution be transmitted to His Honor, Otto Kerner, Governor of the State of Illinois, it being understood that this resolution shall also be adopted by the Village of Arlington Heights and the City of Des Plaines. Section 4. The President of the Board of Trustees of the Village of Mount Prospect is hereby directed to take all necessary step~ to implement the intent and purpose of this resolution and to cooperate fully with the corporate authorities of the Village of Arlington Heights and the City of Des Plaines toward the accomplishment of the objectives of this resolution. AYES: Trustees Bruhl, Casterline, Ekren and Gaw. Nays: None. Absent: Trustees Bickley and Phillips. PASSED and APPROVED this SEVENTH day of AUGUST, 1962.
