MINUTES VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT COFFEE WITH COUNCIL SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 13,2010 9:00 AM Community Room, Village Hall Meeting convened at 9:00 AM. Those present: Mayor Wilks, Trustee Paul Hoefert, Village Manager Michael Janonis and Fire Chief Mike Figolah. Mr. Ho1ec asked what the status was for Levee 37. Mayor Wilks indicated that the levee was going as planned and that she will learn more when she attends a status meeting with the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD) next week. Mr. Holec was confused over the election process. His specific question was in regards to how the election process will change from previous elections. The Mayor indicated that the process will not change. Mr. Holec expressed concern over the growing number of foreclosed properties in the Village. He specifically wanted to know what the Village can do about helping out with selling these homes. Trustee Hoeffert responded that there are many state and federal laws that pertain to foreclosed properties. There is little the Village can do to alleviate the number of vacant homes. Ken Koeppen wanted to know where he can donate used hearing aids. Chief Figolah stated that he would find an organization that would accept them. Chief Figolah followed up with Ken after the meeting with an e-mail indicating the Lions Club will accept used hearing aids less than 10 years old. Teri Markovitz & Jan Kent came together this morning to discuss the Lake Briarwood sewer basin issue. They wanted to know the status. Mr. Janonis explained that the Village has hired a consultant to look at the sewer system. The consultant report has not been completed yet. In the meantime Public Works is monitoring the sewers daily. Ms. Markovitz and Kent spoke of complaints from many of the homeowners that went without a response from the Village. Mr. Janonis stated that he wants to make sure all of the complaints are recorded and the Village will respond to all. Mr. Janonis will have someone from Public Works contact them to make sure all concerns are recorded. Rodger Kruse expressed thanks to the Police Department for citing drivers without a valid license. Carol Tortorello brought a newspaper article indicating Naperville is the latest community to ban throwing candy during a parade. She is looking for community support to follow suit. She lacked support for the proposed action in discussion. Thomas Tezky shared some personal experiences with the group. Jerry Boldt thanked the Village for the wonderful job Public Works does with snow plowing of the streets. He raised concern about residents and businesses that do not remove snow from the sidewalks. He wanted to know if the Village could force people to shovel the sidewalk. Mr. Janonis stated that there is not a local ordinance that requires home and business owners to remove snow from pedestrian walkways, however, this topic will be discussed at a future Committee of the Whole meeting. Louis Goodman & Jim Hoyer expressed concern for the cars in his neighborhood parked on the street when snow plows are trying to clear the streets. He suggested the police department write tickets. Mr. Janonis stated that the plow drivers call the police when this occurs and tickets are issued. Mr. Goodman also complained of a neighboring home that is in disrepair. Mr. Janonis stated he would get staff involved. Mr. Goodman complained of potholes at the intersection of Isabella and Rand Roads. Mr. Janonis will pass on the information to Public Works. Mr. Goodman also expressed concern that his neighbor continually parks cars in his driveway that block the sidewalk. He has spoken to the Police Chief previously and the problem was temporarily corrected, but the cars are blocking the sidewalk again. Mr. Goodman shared an experience with the group while shopping at Garden Fresh recently. He stated that he noticed that the label on ham was removed and re-Iabeled to be sold the next day. His concern is that the food was beyond its expiration date. Mr. Janonis said that he has noticed the same issue, but believes the food is not being sold out of date. His understanding is the food 2 is being sold at a reduced rate a few days before it is unable to be sold. Mr. Janonis will bring this issue up to the Village Health Inspector. Steve & Barbie Van Arsdale raised concern over residents' garbage cans that are left in front of their home. Their concern is that it is unsightly and wondered if there is a local ordinance that prohibits such acts. Mr. Janonis stated that there is a local ordinance that prohibits garbage cans from being left in front of a home and tickets can, and have been issued. Mr. Janonis asked for specific information and he will make sure the cans are addressed. The Van Arsdale's complimented the library on their evening programs. David Shein inquired as to the status of the remodeling at the Holiday Inn. Mr. Janonis indicated that construction crews are making steady progress on the hotel. It appears the hotel will open this spring completely renovated. Jim Chylik asked about the status of video gaming in the Village. Trustee Hoefert informed the group that the village board moved to NOT allow video gaming. Mr. Chylic was relieved. The meeting was adjourned at 10:35 AM. Respectfully Submitted, Michael 1.
