The Community Relations Commission (CRG) of the Village of Mount Prospect met Thursday,
December 3, 2009, at Mount Prospect Village Hall located at 50 South Emerson Street, Mount
Prospect, Illinois
I. CALL TO ORDER
Vice Chairman Parikh called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.
II. ROLL CALL

III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
A motion was made by Commissioner Muench and seconded by Commissioner Schmalzer to
approve the minutes of the August 6, 2009, meeting. The minutes were unanimously approved by a
voice vote.
IV. OLD BUSINESS
Community Connections Center
Deputy Chief Semkiu provided the Commission with a review of the ongoing success of the
Community Connections Center. The efforts of police department Community Service Officer Carlos
Huizar has been well received 'by the community. ,In 2010, Crime Free Housing Coordinator Pat
Lyons will be periodically scheduled at the Center to meet with tenants and property owners
regarding crime free housing issues. Department police officers routinely visit the Center and use it
to meet with residents to discuss police related issues.
V. NEW BUSINESS
· Discussion of Commission Goals
There was a general discussion regarding the Commission's goals and objectives. Currently, the
Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) is the main purpose of the' 'commission.
Commissioner Schmalzer suggested visiting organizations that have afready received'-grant funds.
The commissioners will contact Deputy Chief Semkiuto set up appointments.
Commissioner Muench would'like to see the Community Relations eommission hold an activity
similar to one the Des Plain~s Interfaith Council is sponsoring. For this ~vent, community members
would be invited to participate in activities .;or attend presentations by various speakers.
Commissioner Muench suggested the possibility of Working with the'Mount Prospect Interfaith
Council, which would help draw people of differenHaiths together. This'event could possibly be held
in the community center room.

The Commissioners inquired as to whether the Dr. Martin Luther King dinner will be held in January.
In previous years, the Village sponsored a table and invited the commission members to attend.
Several of the members indicated they are interested in attending. Deputy Chief Semkiu will make
the appropriate inquiry and notify the members.
VI. CORRESPONDENCE
No report.
The next meeting will be held on February 4, 2009, at the Community Connections Center.
VII. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting adjourned at 7:25 p.m. after a motion was made by Commissioner Muench and
seconded by Commissioner Schmalzer. The motion was approved unanimously.
