The meeting was called to order by Judy Thorne at 5:35 PM. II. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved with discussion clarifying French Travel discussion III. REPORTS: Denise Rano reported on possible French travel. The Travel would involve the community and District 214 Community Education Travel agency. The year 2012 was suggested, possibly an 8 day trip with 30 to 40 travelers. The suggestions included beginning with MP residents and adding others as necessary to make the number needed to make the trip financially reasonable. Possible inclusions could be an overnight trip to Normandy, Dinner at the Eiffel Tower, and more. We would want to contact Sevres to request that they plan a daytime tour of town and make arrangements for lunch at a local restaurant with all costs covered by the participants. The cost suggested at that time was approximately $3000. Per person including airfare, hotel and ground transport. Discussion of possibly making the trip in 2010 as a 10th anniversary celebration rather than 2012 to Sevres ensued. It was voted to look into planning for 2010 with the 214 Travel Agency. Denise will continue discussions with the district person. IV. Welcome to new member Tricia Fusilero. Tricia lived in France for a year. It was a great experience. Currently she is a TV producer with Travel Film Productions. V. The Library event with the Cajun Ramblers on November 3 was reported on by Judy Thorne. Approximately 100 individuals enjoyed the event and were very enthusiastic in their response. VI. Maura Reschke reported on the wine tasting at Vino 100 on November 5. Approximately 50 people attended, fewer than expected. Next time we will work on more publicity and a mailing.. 1 VII. NEW BUSINESS Rachel introduced information on quilters coming from Sevres, France. They are coming April 12 to 18, 2010. There are 7 quilters and 2 husbands. They will spend a day at the Rosemont Quilt show. There will also be a quilt show at the MP Historical Society. Rachel would like to plan a Pot Luck on Wednesday 4/14 and was hoping that Sister City members would participate. Judy reported that she had checked with Carol Baldini at Village Hall for availability of the Community Room and that it is not available on Wednesday, but that we could use it on Thursday, 4/15. There was some discussion as to what role the Sister Cities Commission would play in the visit. It is not a Sister Cities event. Members were in agreement to help in whatever way we could. Rachel will inform members of ways they might participate. VIII. 2010 is the 10th Anniversary of the Sister Cities Commission and a celebration is being discussed. IX. Book discussion was discussed again; Irvana is talking to Benedict about how a book discussion would work. X. The Family French Fest was discussed. It will be July 12, 2010, and the cost $500.00. Mary Ann suggested that we could do it on our own with a somewhat different format to keep the event fresh. XI. The SCI Young Authors and Young Artists program was discussed and how we might be involved. Denise Rano volunteered to contact the French teachers at Lincoln Middle School and Prospect High School to promote this event. XII. Media update, looking to update info and possible links, more discussion to follow. Respectfully submitted, Paula Randant 1/12/10 2
