III. REP aRTS:
FRENCH MARKET -Maura EI Metennani reported that the Lions closed off the entire lot. All
the French venders were put in one area. Public Works provided equipment and decor and
man power. The Sister Cities Commission will send a Thank You note to Glen Andler of
Public Works. Maura provided a full written report that will be attached to the minutes.
The decorations were excellent and the Lions were wonderful.
The key Board player was given a gift card for $50. for his playing during the market.
Maura provided a treasurers report as well, also attached to the minutes.
French Week in November was reported on by John Sibrava. National French Week is
November 3 to November 10th. Nov. 3 the Library presentation will be from 730 -830 PM.
The Cajun's will provide music, history and culture. The room holds 120 people. Pre-
registration is needed. The cost of the group is $400.00. Dorothy was able to get a donor to
pay the group.
Denise Rano was not able to attend the meeting but had several ideas for French Week. She
suggested a proclamation from the Mayor and Maura suggested a letter to the editor of the
paper describing the proclamation and the week.
There will also be a Wine Tasting November 5 at Vi no 100 to celebrate French Week. Maura
will follow up with the Civic Events sign. A village permit is needed for the event.
IV. at her Business: Felician resigned from the Commission effective in July 2009. He is unable to
participate in events at this time.
A new Commissioner is needed. There are several applicants and Irvana and Dorothy will
interview them.

V. Discussion of other ideas that might be considered by the Commission. Upcoming events in
Palatine were discussed. They are having a Walk 10/24/09. They have supported our
events in the past. Several members were considering participating.
Denise had additional ideas for possible participation; one being piggy backing with the
French club at Prospect High School to France. Another idea was to do a book discussion,
French/English with Sevre. Open to the Public and possibly teaming up with the Library.
Mary Ann had a suggestion of a French Family Fest around Bastille Day with a story teller
and musicians. A motion was made by John Sibrava to pursue the Family Fest idea and
explore what might be involved. Judy seconded and it was agreed to investigate the Family
Fest idea.
Judy discussed the Community Band visit from Italy. The Bands want to continue the
exchange. There ensued some discussion of adding additional Sister Cities. It was noted
that a city in Italy and a city in Turkey have been interested. This will be discussed further in
the future.
It was noted that Dorothy has been elected to the State Board for Sister Cities.
Congratulations to Dorothy for this honor and responsibility.
John Korn informed us that the Youth Commission used the Baseball tickets from the Flyers
and they enjoyed the game.
Mike Karsen moved that the meeting be adjourned. It was moved and seconded and the
meeting was adjourned at 6:35PM. The next meeting will be November 19, 2009, at 5:30 PM in
the Village Community Center.
The meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Paula Randant
