PROCLAMA TION
ACKNOWLEDGING THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF
OFFICER WILLIAM "BILL" ROSCOP
TO THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT
WHEREAS, William Roscop began his career as a Police Officer with the Village of Mount
Prospect on January 3, 1980; and
WHEREAS, William Roscop served as one of the agency's first Evidence Technicians and as
an I nvestigator; and
WHEREAS, William Roscop began his service in the department's Crime Prevention Unit in
1987 where he would serve for the next 22 years; and
WHEREAS, William Roscop developed and implemented many crime prevention and public
education programs to include the "Officer Friendly" program, Park Watch, Neighborhood
Watch, and the "Crime Line" television program; and
WHEREAS, William Roscop dedicated countless hours assisting and promoting community
organizations in their endeavors, including the Mount Prospect Public Library, the Mount
Prospect Historical Society, the Mount Prospect Lions Club, and the schools and park districts
serving the residents of Mount Prospect; and
WHEREAS, William Roscop's professionalism and service have been recognized by his law
enforcement peers and the community through the reception of numerous awards including
thousands of citizens' letters of appreciation, Officer of the Quarter, Officer of the Year (1995),
Crime Prevention Unit of the Year (1995), Mount Prospect Shining Star (1996), Cook County
Sheriff's Award of Merit (2008), a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Illinois Crime
Prevention Officers Association (2008), and designation as one of the Seven Wonders of
Mount Prospect by the Mount Prospect Historical Society; and
WHEREAS, William Roscop will retire after 30 years of dedicated and selfless service to the
citizens of Mount Prospect.
NOW, THEREFORE, Irvana K. Wilks, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby
declare Friday, November 20,2009 as
"William, 'Officer Friendly', Roscop Day"
in the Village of Mount Prospect, and I encourage everyone to recognize Officer William
Roscop for his years of service to the community and do hereby express sincere gratitude for
his professionalism and dedication to his position with the Village. And, on behalf of the entire
community wish William Roscop and his wife Donna good health and happiness in their
retirement.
