ROLL CALL
Present upon roll call: ~hern F~rst Norris Reiter Soderman Teichert
Absent: Kilroy -
President ~eichert called this special meeting on Saturday, Parade permit givel
December 6, 1969 for the purpose of considering an application anti war group
for a parade permit filed with the Chief of Police -~ applicant,
Neal Powers - which had been denied on a technicality. The
parade chairman, Dick MateJa, 629 Bob-o-Link, Mount Prospect,
was listed as the person responsible. The original plan for
the parade route was to assemble at Eandhurst. However, it is
anticipated there woald be 100 cars in a motorcade, with BOO-
500 people at the assembly point. The purpose of the parade as
stated by the applicants was in opposition to the war in Viet
Nam. After discussion on Saturday, December 6, 1969 between
the Chief of Police, the Mayor, and petitioners, a supplemental
route had been suggested to alleviate traffic congestion. The
alternate route would be Central Road Rand Road River Road
Northwest Highway, Mount Prospect Road to Golf, 8B to Der&oster,
and then to Kopp park. The technicality on which the. denial of
the application was based was the fact that it was filed with
the Chief of Police 8 days before the parade instead of ten.
Mrs. Lynne Heidt of Prospect Heights and Mrs. Mary Lutier of
Wheeling, appeared on behalf of the high school students and in
support of the Women for Peace.
Trustee Ahem, seconded by Trustee Reiter, moved to waive the
stated waiting period as provided in the ordinance and gr~t
the parade permit as requested in the application dated Dec.
1969 at the stated supplemental route.
