COMMUNICATIONS AND PETITIONS Attorney Robert Moore, reDresentin~ owners of the Furniture Case#71- Hutch, located at 930 E. Northwest Highway, appeared before 31A the Bbard to appeal the decision of the Board of Appeals to deny a variation petition to change the lettering and con- tinue the use of an existing sign. (Case #71-31A) Mr. Moore cited Section 9.309 of the Municipal Code relating.to non-conforming signs as the basis of his request. The sign had been erected in 1958, before passage of the ordinance in 1966, and had been in continual use. The Village Manager recommended granting the oetitioner his request to change the lettering on the sign, stating the lettering or wording should not be construed as a structural change. Trustee Monroe, seconded by Trustee Ahern, moved to grant to the petitioner, Furniture Hutch, the right to put in lettering on the sign commensurate with the business on that property, without structural change to the sign. A petition was received from 100% of the homeowners on svree~ name Chimu Lane (formerly Roberts Lane) to change the street change amend- name to Mohawk Lane. Trustee Scholten, seconded by Trusteemenv To Richardson, moved to approve an amendment to Ordinance 2324, ord.2324 for a first reading, changing the name of Chimu Lane to Mohawk Lane. December 7, 1971 MAYOR'S REPORT Bus service At a Committee-of-the-Whole meeting action was taken to program authorize the administration to participate with Randhurst 6 week and the Chamber of Comme~ce on a six-week free bus service shoppers special ~in an amount not to exceed $2,000. Trustee Anderson, seconded by Trustee Furst, moved to ratify the action taken to authorize the administration to participate in the bus service program as outlined, not to exceed $2,000. Upon roll call: Ayes: Ahern Anderson Furst Monroe Richardson Scholten Motion carried. At the Committee-of-the-Whole meeting action was taken to planning authorize the administration to hire a planning consultant consultant for work in planning in the newly-annexed area relative to zonihg and land uses, not. to exceed $2,000. Trustee Richard- son, seconded by'Trustee Ahern, moved to ratify the action taken and authorize the Village Manager lo hire a consultant not to exceed $2,000. COMMITTEE CHAIRMEN REPORTS BUILDING COMMITTEE Trustee Richardson, seconded by Trustee Ahern, moved for waiver of the rules to discuss the petition for Hines'Lumber Case 71-~8A Co. December 7, 1971 he Board of Appeals voted the reauested variations be granted, except that the new construction shall conform as shown on the plans presented~ Trustee Richardson, seconded by Trustee Anderson, moved to concur with the recommendation of the Board of Appeals and grant the requested variations. The Village Attorney was requested to draft an ordinance for Case 71-38A to be presented at the December 21, 1971 regular Case meeting. 38A FINANCE COMMITTEE The Finance Committee reviewed the petition of Carl's Pizza for a beer and wine license. Trustee An~derson, seconded by Carl's ?±2 Trustee Monroe, moved to concur with the recommendation of beer and the Finance Committee to prepare an ordinance for a liquor license restricted to beer and wine for consupti'on on the wine restaurant premises. Other communities have voted and accepted the study as is. However, the Finance Director has submitted to the Committee some objections, i. e., 1: There is no schedule of priorities of items to be included on the co~ou'ter for the four commun- ities and it was felt that water billing should be moved up to top p~rlority; 2: It is necessary to consider'the~selection of a computer-manager; 3: There should be~a dec~sion on the best method of' processing the program and the direction of the manager before the group is committed. JUDICIARY COMMITTEE Case 71-14P R. Springston RA to R4 1400 Linneman was re- viewed by the Committee. Trustee Ahern, seconded by Trustee Monroe, moved the Board concur with the recommendation of th~asen Judiciary Committee to grant the zoning of the southerly 102 £p~±ngs~c to R-3 and the northerly portion consisting of 7 lots of 60' each lot to R-2. Mr'. Malcolm Young, Chairman of the Plan Commission, Mr~, Harold Ross and Mr. Robert McBride, members of the Plan Commission, appeared before the Board. It was their contention that be- cause Mr. Springston had submitted a new proposal a new hearing should be inst~ituted. ~urt~er, the alternate plan ~resented was, in their opinion, too high in density. Other suggestions had been made regarding the compatibility of cluster housing vs. the usual apartment type complex in an area in close prox- imity to single-family residential. Objectors present were George Brown, 1415 Hickory, Charles Jessie, 1419 Hickory, Fred Hammer, 1210 Linneman, Mrs. L. Peterson, 1413 S. Hickory and Mr. J. Mentus, 1422 S. Hickory.
