September 02, 2009 Page 1 of 3 ~ MOUNT PROSPECT YOUTH COMMISSION MINUTES ROLL CALL Secretary Cindy Rumore called the roll. APPROV AL OF MINUTES Due to attendance, there was no quorum and the minutes from the August OS, 2009 Youth Commission meeting were not approved. GUEST Mr. Robert Habel, Vice President, Mount Prospect Lion's Club, attended the meeting and explained the functions of the Lion's Club to the Youth Commission members. Mr. Habel also thanked Youth Commission members for their assistance with recent Lion's Club events. Mr. Habel invited the Youth Commission to participate in the Lion's Club Farmer's Market on Sunday mornings. He also advised the Lion's Club was interested in purchasing a display case for the Youth Commission to be used at Village events. Members discussed the offer, decided to research table top display cases (Christian Lopez, David Schein), and will discuss further at the October meeting. Youth Commission will contact Mr. Habel upon completion of their research of display cases and schedule a date to present to the Lion's Club Board members. PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMITTEE Dan Kovach, Emily Lindfors, Eric Logisz, Christian Lopez, Elza Maloku, Rabia Memon, Daniel Milewski, Alex Oplawski VILLAGE COMMISSION / ORGANIZATION MEETINGS Chairman Pro Temp Daniel Milewski passed around the sign up sheet for members to choose a Village commission / organization meeting to attend and report on youth related issues. Members reviewed the dates and signed up for various meetings. Agendas for the Commission meetings are posted on the Village website. Youth Commission members did not attend any additional Village meetings in September. Members encouraged to attend the Village meetings they sign up for and report youth related issues back to the Commission. RECRUITMENT COMMITTEE Adam Kiel, Rachel Otte, Nandini Roy, Merrily Ruetsche, Delanie Steinweg, Derek Steinweg Delanie Steinweg to talk to River Trails Middle School principal Mr. Keir Rogers to include recruitment information with daily school announcements and school newspapers. Members also discussed advertising for new members in school newspapers. Emily Lindfors and Daniel Milewski to bring in information from their high schools at the October meeting. Christian Lopez discussed the possibility of advertising the Youth Commission on Facebook. Members to contact Maura EI Metennani for guidance on the use of advertising on public forums. September 02, 2009 Page 2 of 3 ~ MOUNT PROSPECT YOUTH COMMISSION MINUTES Adult Advisor Anthony Addante suggested Youth Commission members to contact Community Connections Center, 1711 West Algonquin Road. OLD BUSINESS YOUTH VIEW Youth View program: "Traffic Safety" taped on July 29, 2009 is being edited. Adult Advisor George Clowes advised next Youth View taping will be in October. Jazz group from Prospect High School and HINI swine flu possible future topics for Youth View. YOUTH RESOURCE CATALOG Youth Resource catalogs are complete and have been distributed at the Farmer's Market. JOB SHADOWING Youth Commission members job shadowed members of various Village departments. WEEKLY NEWSPAPER ARTICLE Emily Lindfors to forward completed article to Adult Advisor Steven Polit for submission to the Journal. SEMI-ANNUAL REPORT TO VILLAGE BOARD The Youth Commission Semi-Annual Report "Youth Commission Goals" to be presented to the Village Board on October 13, 2009. Members to send any further goal suggestions to Chairman Derek Steinweg prior to the October meeting. Youth Commission members encouraged to attend the Village Board meeting. NEW BUSINESS NEW YEAR'S PROPOSAL To be discussed at the October meeting. OTHER BUSINESS ARLINGTON HEIGHTS TEEN CENTER Members discussed attending Arlington Heights Youth Commission meeting on Thursday, September 17, 2009 at Teen Center, 112 Belmont, Arlington Heights, IL. MOTION TO ADJOURN Merrily Ruetsche, seconded by Motion carried by unanimous approval. Nandini Roy, moved to adjourn the meeting. MEETING ADJOURNED Chairman Pro Temp Daniel Milewski adjourned the meeting at 8:33 p.m. September 02, 2009 Page 3 of 3
