RESOLUTION NO. 12-67
A RESOLUTION BY THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT OBJECTING TO
THE SIGN HEIGHT VARIATION REQUESTED IN THE B-2 (RES'IRICTIVE
SERVICE) DISTRICT LOCATED ON THE SOUTHWEST CORNER OF OAK'IDN
STREET AND ELMHURST ROAD IN ELK GROVE TOWNSHIP, DESIGNATED
BY THE COOK COUNrY ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS ON DOCKET #1143
WHEREAS, Cities Service Oil Company, Petitioner, seeks the
variation of the maximum sign height of 35 feet Qn tlie B-2 (Restrictive
Service) District on a parcel of land located on the Southwest corner of
Oakton Street an:l Elmhurst Road in Elk Grove Township, to approximately
68 feet designated by the Cook County Zoning Board of Appeals as
Docket #1143; and
WHEREAS, the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of
Mount Prospect desire to exercise the authority to file a formal objection
conferred upon them by Section 3158 of Chapter 34 of the Illinois Revised
Statutes of 1965;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF
TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF IVIOUNT PROSPECT, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS:
SEaI'ION ONE: That the Village of Mount Prospect does hereby object
to the rezoning described above and requests the County Board to vote its
official objection and does hereby state that the reasons for the objection
are as follows:
A. The property to the immediate F.a.st, South and West of the subj ect
property is currently zoned M-l (Restricted ~anufacturing) District in
Cook County where the sign height limitation is 35 feet and only greater
by the granting of a Special Use fran the Cook County Board of Comnissioners.
B. The property imnediately North of the subject property is B-4
(General Service) District in Cook County where the sign height limitation
is 35 feet and only greater by the granting of a Special Use fran the Cook
County Board of Comnissioners.
C. The alleged purpose for the height request is to attract motorists
traveling on the Northwest Tollway which is imnediately South of subject
property and has egress onto Elmhurst Road for Westbound traffic only thereby
causing a greater flow of traffic in the area for motorists to gain access
back onto the Northwest 'l'ollway at another distant point.
D. The granting of this proposed use will be a forerunner to the
application of numerous 'requests for similar uses at or near this inter-
section therein creating a situation of numerous signs under special use
permits contrary to good planning.
E. The position and type of sign proposed under said application
will be a potential hazard to the existing approach to the O'Hare Airport
via air travel, as it is within 1-1/2 miles from the runway of said airport.
SECTION 'lW0: That imnediately upon tne publication and approval
of this Resolution, the Village Clerk of the Village of Mount Prospect be,
and is hereby authorized and directed to transmit, certified copies of the

Resolution to the County Clerk of Cook County, to the Secretary of the
Zoning Board of Appeals of Cook County, and the President of the Board of
Commissioners of Cook County.
SECTION THREE: This Resolution shall be in full force and effect
from and after its passage and approval in the manner provided by law.
