HomeMy WebLinkAbout07/16/2009 CRC minutes 'MINUTES COMMUNITY RELA nONS COMMISSION Village Board Room, 3rd Floor Village Hall Thursday, July 16, 2009 7:00 p.m. The Community Relations Commission (CRC) of the Village of Mount Prospect met Thursday, July 16, 2009 in the Village Board room on the 3rd floor of Village Hall located at 50 S. Emerson, Mount Prospect, illinois. CALL TO ORDER Chairperson Tolbert called the meeting to order at 7:03 p.m. and welcomed a new Commissioner, Kenneth Schmalzer, to the Community Relations Commission ROLL CALL Present: Chairperson Tolbert Commissioner Schmalzer Commissioner Parikh Commissioner Ortiz Also in attendance: Janet Saewert, Neighborhood Planner Doug Tichenor, Planning Intern APPROVAL OF MINUTES Commissioner Parikh made a motion to approve the March 5, 2009 minutes and Commissioner Ortiz seconded the motion. The minutes were approved. From the focus group information, approximately 16% of the homes listed on the market are in the foreclosure process. The focus group participants stated that once the bank owns a property, private investors have been purchasing the properties. Commissioner Schmalzer asked about the condominiums and townhome auction through Norwood and whether or not those units were part of the foreclosure calculation. Staff did not know the answer, but promised to look into the question. Chairperson Tolbert asked how the Community Connections Center would fit into the priorities. Staff indicated that many of the services identified as needs will be available at the center and, since public transportation was identified as a need, will be conveniently located for residents in South Mount Prospect. Commissioner Parikh asked how much of our budget would be spent toward making health care affordable. Staff reminded the commission that they would receive a packet of information and a draft budget within the next two weeks. The public service agencies will make their presentations and funding requests to the Commission on August 6th. Chairperson Tolbert asked for follow-up information about GWAYO's budget amendment in 2009. Staff stated that the north camp was cancelled because a facility was not available. The organization Community Relations Commission July 16, 2009 Meeting Page 4 of 5 has met and worked next year's camp out, but the commission should ask for more information at the August 6th meeting. Commissioner Ortiz mentioned that her son attended the south camp and stated that the camp was well run and organized. ADJOURNMENT The next meeting is scheduled for August 6,2009. A motion was made by Commissioner Parikh to adjourn the meeting and seconded by Commissioner Schmalzer.
