RESOLUTION NO. 13-68
A RESOLUTION IN OPPOSITION TO TRAFFIC CONGESTION CAUSED AT RAILROAD CROSSINtlS
WHEREAS, the railroad freight trains of the Chicago and Northwestern
Railroad have caused unusual and improper traffic congestion and citizen
delays by their unreasonable and lengthy blockage of railroad crossings in
and near the Village of Mount Prospect; and
WHEREAS, the public safety has been endangered through blockage of
crossings for improper periods of time by the aforesaid railroad freight
trains, thereby hindering free rroverrent of police cars, fire engines and
ambulances, and the orderly flow of traffic; and
vJHEREAS, additional hazards are caused by both children and adults
attempting to pass through these crossings while the said trains are blocking
t.he same J thereby causing danger of accident; and
WHEREAS, it is obvious that the Railroad is violating the legal
restrictions regarding this subj ect as well as the rules of conmon courtesy
and consideration;
NOW J THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES
OF THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT, COOK COUNTY J IILINOIS:
SECTION 1: That the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad be put on
notice that it is expected and encouraged to obey the laws relating to blockage
of railroad crossings contained in the state statutes, and that the Railroad
is further called upon to observe the rules of common courtesy and considerat-
ion on this aggvavated matter.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the President and Board of Trustees of
the Village of Mount Prospect shall do all within its power and sphere of
influence to see that above-mentioned laws are adhered to by the said Rail-
road as it travels through the Village of Mount Prospect.
SECTION 2: That the Village Clerk is hereby directed to forward
certified copies of this Resolution to the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad.
SECTION 3: That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect
from and after its passage and approval in the manner provided by law.
