HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes 07-69 03/18/1969 _. ....,. . ,J RESOLurION 7-69 WHEREAS, the blocking of highways and streets within the Village of rlbunt Prospect, Cook County, State of Illinois,. by moving and standing trains for long periods of time, has impeded the cornrrerce of the Village of f'/bunt Prospect, has constituted a safety hazard, and has sorely been a matter of great inconvenience to motorists; and WHEREAS, said blockage of highways has imperiled police and fire protection and ambulance service to the inhabitants of not only Mount Prospect, but of the entire State; and WHEREAS, H. B. 287 has been introduced in the 76th General Assembly and limits the time that a locomotive, car or train can block a highway or street to 10 minutes, except for certain circumstances, and provides that violation of the Act is punishable as a misdemeanor; and WHEREAS, present statutory law unduly restricts the State and the municipality from the exercise of its police power to curb this injustice; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Mount Prospect, Cook County. Illinois, as follows: SEGrION OOE: For the purpose of promoting the public safety, health, welfare. convenience and enj oyment of public travel and for the pU!l>ose of providing adequate police and fire protection and ambulance service to the inhabitants of the Village of Mount Prospect, and the comrmmity at large, the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Mount Prospect do express their full support for the passage of H. B. 287. SEGrION 'IWO: That the Village Clerk be and is hereby directed to transmit certified copies of this Resolution to the Representatives and Senator of the Third Senatorial District, to the Speaker of the House and the President pro-tem of the Senate of the Illinois Legislature, and the Governor of the Ii State of Illinois and others who are interested. III Iii Ii I SECTION THREE: That the President and Board of Trustees encourage the support of the inhabitants of the Village of Mount Prospect and other municipalities in the passage of House Bill 287.
