Chairman Derek Steinweg called the July 01, 2009 Youth Commission meeting to order at 7:03 p.m. in the first
floor training room of the Police and Fire Headquarters, Mount Prospect, Illinois.

ROLL CALL
Secretary Cindy Rumore called the roll.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Nandini Roy, seconded by Daniel Kovach, moved to approve the minutes of the June 03, 2009 Youth
Commission meeting with the amended clarification of future Youth View programs.
PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMITTEE
Dan Kovach, Emily Lindfors, Eric Logisz, Elza Maloku, Rabia Memon, Daniel Milewski, Alex Oplawski
VILLAGE COMMISSION / ORGANIZATION MEETINGS
Chairman Derek Steinweg passed around the sign up sheet for members to choose a Village commission /
organization meeting to attend and report on youth related issues. Members reviewed the dates and signed up for
various meetings. Agendas for the Commission meetings are posted on the Village website. Members
encouraged to attend upcoming Village meetings.
Youth Commission members did not attend any additional Village meetings in June.
RECRUITMENT COMMITTEE
Adam Kiel, Rachel Otte, Nandini Roy, Merrily Ruetsche, Delanie Steinweg, Derek Steinweg
Rabia Memon and Delanie Steinweg submitted Youth Commission recruitment information to River Trails
Middle School to be included with school announcements.
Secretary Cindy advised Youth Commission members that Mayor Irvana Wilks received a Youth Commission
application from a prospective new member, junior at DePaul University.
OLD BUSINESS
YOUTH VIEW
Youth View tapings: Autism Awareness was taped on June 10,2009 with Mrs. Heck, NSSEO and "Firing Line
Reloaded" was recorded in the Skokie studios with Andy Barr from Prospect High School who is part of a
group, "Political Union."
Members discussed the next Youth View program: "Traffic Safety" scheduled for taping on July 29, 2009.
YOUTH RESOURCE CATALOG
Members continue to work on the rough draft of the Youth Resource catalog. Elza Maloku to assist with the
completion of the final draft of the catalog.
YOUTH AND THE ECONOMY
Emily Lindfors working on the article of information received from area youth in the community on how they
are dealing with the stress associated with today's economy. Elza Maloku and Emily Lindfors to complete the
article and forward to area newspapers.
Members discussed how the economy is affecting them; finding jobs, family situations, etc.

available to shadow members of various Village departments this summer.
FOURTH OF JULY PARADE
Youth Commission members discussed their participation in the Fourth of July parade.
NEW BUSINESS
FOURTH OF JULY LION'S CARNIVAL
Chairmen Derek Steinweg talked with Mr. Rob Habel, Vice President, Mount Prospect Lions Club, regarding
Youth Commission members assisting with the Lions Club carnival on July 01-05, 2009. Youth Commission
members to help the Lions Club by selling glow necklaces at the fireworks displays on Wednesday and Saturday
and work the pop station. Youth Commission also to have a Youth Commission booth at the carnival to recruit
new members for the commission.
Adult Advisor David Schein suggested writing a thank you to the Lions Club for their support of the Youth
Commission.
WEEKLY NEWSPAPER ARTICLE
Adult Advisor Steven Polit advised Richard Mayer, reporter from the Journal & Topics newspaper, is willing to
run a weekly Youth Commission article in the newspaper in their Friday edition. Emily Lindfors and Elza
Maloku to write the weekly articles on behalf of the Youth Commission and email to members for approval prior
to publication.
OTHER BUSINESS
LIBRARY DISPLAY CASE
Chairman Derek Steinweg reminded members the Youth Commission is scheduled to use the display case in the
Teen Zone for the month of August. Interested members to set up the display case the end of July.
SEMI-ANNUAL REPORT TO VILLAGE BOARD
The Youth Commission Semi-Annual Report "Youth Commission Goals" to be presented to the Village Board at
a September Village Board meeting. Adult Advisor George Clowes encouraged members to review the Village
Youth Commission ordinance when preparing the report. Chairman Derek Steinweg asked members to review
the ordinance, formulate goals, and forward to him prior to the August meeting.

Motion carried by unanimous approval.
