MAYORS REPORT 09/01/2009 PROCLAMATION INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE SEPTEMBER 21, 2009 WHEREAS, the issue of peace embraces the deepest hopes of all peoples and remains humanity's guiding inspiration; and WHEREAS, in 1981 the United Nations proclaimed the International Day of Peace be "devoted to commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples"; and WHEREAS, the United Nations expanded the observance of the International Day of Peace in 2001 to include the call for a day of global ceasefire and non-violence, and invited all nations and people to honor a cessation of hostilities for the duration of the Day; and WHEREAS, there is growing support within our community for the observance of the International Day of Peace, which affirms a vision of our world at peace, and fosters cooperation between individuals, organizations and nations; and WHEREAS, global crises impel all citizens to work toward converting humanity's noblest aspirations for world peace into a practical reality for future generations. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Arlene A. Juracek, Mayor Pro Tem of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby proclaim September 21, 2009 as the day of INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE throughout the Village of Mount Prospect, and urge all government departments and agencies, organizations, schools, places of worship and individuals in our community to commemorate, in an appropriate manner, the International Day of Peace and help establish a global day of peace in our homes, our communities and between nations. WILKS AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES FROM: VILLAGE MANAGER MICHAEL JANONIS DATE: AUGUST 26, 2009 SUBJECT: LAS ISLAS MARIAS 1784 W. GOLF ROAD REQUEST FOR A NEW CLASS "F1" LIQUOR LICENSE On Tuesday August 25, 2009 the Village Manager met with owner Ms. Jessica Ramirez, husband Jamie Ramirez and manager Andres Mendivil regarding her request for the creation of a new Class "F1" liquor license for the above referenced establishment. The Class "F1" license provides for full service of alcoholic beverages at dining tables only. Ms. Ramirez currently owns restaurant Costas De Nayarit in Stone Park, Illinois. Ms. Ramirez indicated the theme of the restaurant will be Mexican seafood reasonably priced. The total building square footage is 2,300 square feet with an estimated 17 tables. She currently plans to serve lunch and dinner seven days a week with operational hours of Sunday through Thursday 10:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m. and weekends 10:00 a.m.-midnight. The Village Manager discussed at length with Ms. Ramirez and her manager the Village's particular sensitivity to the sale of alcohol to minors and over service to clearly intoxicated individuals. The Village Manager also indicated that the applicant is responsible for the actions of all employees and managers. Mr. Janonis covered the Village's Fight Ordinance. Ms. Ramirez and Mr. Mendivil indicated that they read and understood the requirements of the Village Liquor Code. A completed application is on file along with payment of fees. Ms. Ramirez and manager Mr. Mendivil have also submitted to fingerprinting and background checks. Both have submitted proof of completion of a certified liquor server's course. If the Village Board considers this application favorably, an Ordinance creating a new as "F1" liquor license should be adopted. MEJ/dj ORDINANCE NO. AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 13 OF THE VILLAGE CODE OF MOUNT PROSPECT BE IT ORDAINED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS ACTING IN THE EXERCISE OF THEIR HOME RULE POWERS: SECTION ON E: That in accordance with Subsection A of Section 13.108 of Chapter 13 of the Village Code of Mount Prospect, as amended, the Corporate Authorities shall determine the number of Liquor Licenses available in each Classification and shall establish a list specifying the number of Liquor Licenses authorized. Said list is hereby amended by increasing the number of Class "F-1" Liquor License by One (1) Alemar Inc. d/b/a Las Islas Marias 1784 W. Golf Road.
