The following mission statement was discussed and formally approved by a motion made by Mike
Figolah with second by John Astreides.
The mission of the Citizen Corps is to harness the power of every individual through education, training
and volunteer service to make the Village of Mount Prospect safer, stronger, and better prepared to
respond to the threats of terrorism, crime, public health issues, and disasters of all kinds.
Mike Figolah explained the Citizen Corps Council needs a member who represents a private not for profit
organization. This will require an ordinance change. Mayor Wilks explained she has a recommendation
to fill the position and would work on the ordinance change.
Mike Figolah gave an overview of the CERT Family Preparedness Night that will take place toward the
end of the school year. The preparedness night topics will include those in the Community Preparedness
Guide. All present applauded the Community Preparedness Guide. Mike Figolah provided an overview
of the information centers.
John Astreides informed Mike Figolah that training is an issue to be addressed by CERT. We need to
include personal protective equipment training. John also mentioned to explore purchasing radios. Mike
Figolah identified there is a training outline for 2009 and grant money for radios.
It was determined the next meeting will be determined at a later date.
A motion for adjournment to join the CERT meeting scheduled for 7 PM. was made by John Dahlberg.
John Astreides seconded the motion and the meeting adjourned at 7: 10PM.
Respectfully Submitted,
R. Paul Valentine
