APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Jill Friedrichs, seconded by Eileen Gattas, moved to approve the
minutes of the May 2,2009 meeting. Motion approved.
FINANCIAL REPORT: Martha Helm moved and Sandy DiCaro seconded to approve the
Treasurer's Report of May 31,2009. This motion was approved pending information from Mike
Janonis regarding the recognition of prior year revenue in the amount of $799.99.
CURRENT BUSINESS:
1. Fine Arts Festival: There was no formal report from Teresa VanOpdorp in her absence.
There are approximately 35 artists participating. No scholarships were being awarded
this year.
2. Do-It-Yourself Sousa: Martha Helm reported that the deadline date for entry is 6/25.
The music will be sent out to participants at the end of June. The Community Band
would like to be acknowledged as a co-sponsor with the SEC. The commission
approved to purchase flags for the event out of our money. Martha will look into prices
and places to get flags and report back to everyone via e-mail. There was discussion of
creating a website for next year's event for participants to receive their music via e-mail.
3. Fourth of July Parade: There is a $19,000 budget for the parade. Jill Friedrichs stated
that she was under budget at the moment. The floats run approximately $600-$800 and
the Village pays the first $200. Some of the new participants this year will be the Classic
Cavaliers and the Library will have a Book Cart Drill Team.
NEW BUSINESS:
1. Mt. Prospect Community Band: Martha informed members about the band from Italy
that will be in town the week of 8/19-8/26. Our community band is looking for sponsors
for the 55 members that will be here. She suggested the SEC sponsor a farewell dinner
for the band. Commission members present felt we would possibly host a dinner but
would want to participate in it. There was discussion of hosting the dinner on a different
day due to scheduling issues.
ADJOURNMENT: The June 6, 2009 meeting of the Mount Prospect Special Events
Commission adjourned at 10:00 a.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Eileen Gattas
