BE IT ORDAINED by the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of
Mount Prospect, Cook County, Illinois, that the President and Village Clerk of
said Village be and they are hereby authorized and empowered on behalf of said
Village of Mount Prospect to execute an agreement with the Illinois Bell Telephone
Company in form and substance as follows, to wit:
"THIS AGF~UF.NT made this day of ~ .
A.D. 19--, by and between the Village of Mount Prospect, a municipal
corporation in the County of Cook, State of Illinois, hereinafter referred
to as the Village, and the Illinois Bell Telephone Company, an Illinois
corporation hereinafter referred to as the Company, Witnesseth:
"WHEREAS, the Village has no fire alarm system of its own in
service in said Village and has requested permission of the Company to
have the Company's operators doing the switching of subscribers lines in
the exchange building of the Company in the Village of Arlington Heights,
Illinois, perform the service hereinafter specified so that such informa-
tion as is received by telephone as to the location of any fire in the Vil-
lage may be furnished to the Fire Department of the Village, and
"WHEREAS, the Company is willing to grant this permission and
to have its operators perform such service for the Village without lia-
bility to the Company in the manner and upon the terms and conditions here-
inafter specified.
"NOW, THEREFORE, in consideration of the covenants and agree-
ments hereinafter contained and of the sum of One Dollar ($1.00) in hand
paid by each of the parties hereto to the other and for other good and
valuable considerations, moving from each of said parties to the other,
the receipt of all of which are hereby aCknowledged, it is mutually agreed
as follows:
"FIRST: In order that reports of fire may be given preferred
attention, the Company agrees to assign, for the purpose of such fire re-
ports only, the telephone number Mount Prospect 0 to the telephone which
is located at the plant of the J. B. Crofoot Company and which is other-
wise known as Mount Prospect 1060; to publish instructions in its tele-
phone directory for the district in which the Village of Mount Prospect
is located to the effect that Mount Prospect 0 is the number to call to
report a fire; and to instruct its operators that whenever a call is made
to Mount Prospect 0, or whenever a person calling in any other way indi-
cates a desire to report a fire, to give continued supervision to such
call. The Company further agrees to assign a special code call which
shall not be made public by the Village, its employees or volunteer fire-
men, to be furnished the Village and by it given to the Village firemen
so that in case of alarms of fire the latter may make their identities
as Village firemen known to the Company's operators at its said exchange
building when such firemen call said exchange by telephone for informa-
tion as to the location of the fire for which an alarm has been sounded,
and be furnished such information as may be in the possession of said
operators relative to the location of the fire; no information as to the
location of the fire to be given to persons not giving such code call.
"SECOND: The Village does hereby release said Company from,
and will indemnify said Company against and save it harmless from any
and all legal and other expenses, claims, costs, losses, suits, judgments
or damages for or on account of injuries to or death of persons or injury
to or destruction of property by reason of or claimed to be caused,
directly or indirectly, by the performance or the failure to perform
any act or acts by the Company , its agents, servants, or employees, in
any manner or at any time in connection with such fire calls whether re-
quired by the terms hereof or not.

"THIRD: This agreement shall continue in force until ter-
minated by either of the parties hereto giving to the other thirty
(50) days previous written notice of its intention to terminate the
same, whereupon the service herein provided for sh811 cease upon ex-
piration of said period of thirty (50) days.
"FOURTH: It is further understood and agreed that this
agreement is made subject to the right of the Illinois Commerce Com-
mission to require the same to be abrogated and terminated whenever
in its opinion the public interest or convenience requires it.
"IN WITNESS WHEREOF the parties hereto have caused this
agreement to be executed by their respective officers thereunto duly
authorized the day and year first above written."
BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED that the Village Clerk be and he is hereby in-
structed to forward a certified copy of this ordinance to said Company.
