HomeMy WebLinkAbout06/13/2009 CWC minutes MINUTES VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT COFFEE WITH COUNCIL SATURDAY, June 13,2009 Community Center 1 st Floor Village Hall Trustee Juracek called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. Trustee Polit and Trustee Matuszak were also present. Representing staff was Police Chief John Dahlberg. Residents In Attendance Barbara Vanarsdale Can-Dota Avenue Steve Vanarsdale Can-Dota Avenue Jim Chylik Locust Street Mal Holec Quince Lane Carol Tortorello South Elmhurst Avenue John Woytouich N. Russel David Schein Na-Wa-Ta Avenue Trustee Juracek asked for the minutes to note when she arrived at the Village Hall today it was raining heavily and the outside lawn sprinklers located on Village Hall property were operating. She would like to have the appropriate staff notified to see if sensors can be installed to prevent sprinkler operation during rain events. Barbara & Steve Vanarsdale. Can-Dota Barbara and Steve Vanarsdale attended the Coffee with Council meeting for the opportunity to meet everyone and find out what is happening in the Village. The Vanarsdale's commented that Coffee with Council is one of the best things the Village does and the meetings should never be stopped. Carol Tortorello. S. Elmhurst Avenue Carol Tortorello is concerned with the stray/feral cat problem in her neighborhood. Ms. Tortorello feels this is becoming a health issue because the cats are using other yards as their litter boxes. There is a couple living on the east side of Elmhurst Avenue feeding stray cats. This couple (possibly at 305 S. Elmhurst Ave.) is registered with the Wheeling Feral Feline Program. The program specializes in catching stray cats and neutering them one colony at a time. This issue was discussed at length and Trustee Juracek stated the Village Board needs to examine the feral cat issue further in an effort to determine if additional ordinance language is necessary . Mal Holec. Quince Lane Mr. Holec had the following items to discuss: 1) He expressed his concern with the stray/feral cat situation and he would like to see the Village do everything possible to eliminate the problem. 2) Mr. Holec said he thought the reflective strips on the bottom of the stop signs were a great idea and hopes they are permanent. Chief Dahlberg advised they would remain on the stop signs permanently. 3) Mr. Holec asked when the work is scheduled to begin on Coffee with Council Minutes Page 1 of 2 06/13/09 Kensington Road east of Rand. Chief Dahlberg replied the contract for work was awarded and should commence shortly. 4) Mr. Holec requested an update on the progress of the Community Connections Center. A brief update was provided by Trustee Juracek. Jim Chvlik. Locust Street Mr. Chylik inquired as to when the other half of the "Buffalo Boxes" will be picked up from 1400 block of Redwood. The appropriate staff would be notified to follow-up. John Wovtouich. Russel Mr. Woytouich had no specific issues to discuss. David Schein. Na-Wa- Ta Mr. Schein said he was happy to see the Rain Garden/Rear Yard Water Program. There was a general discussion regarding the scope, cost and effectiveness of the program. Mr. Schein inquired as to whether the Village would consider having the businesses in town sponsor Village banners. Other communities are doing it, and he believes it would benefit the businesses and be more cost effective for the Village.
