CALL TO ORDER
Chairman Derek Steinweg called the April 01, 2009 Youth Commission meeting to order at 7:10 p.m. in the first
floor training room of the Police and Fire Headquarters, Mount Prospect, Illinois.

Chairman Derek Steinweg called the roll.
APPROV AL OF MINUTES
Daniel Milewski, seconded by Merrily Ruetsche, moved to approve the minutes of the March 04, 2009 Youth
Commission meeting. Motion carried by unanimous approval.
PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMITTEE
Emily Lindfors, Eric Logisz, Elza Maloku, Daniel Milewski, Alex Oplawski
Chairman Derek Steinweg added Youth Commission members Emily Lindfors and Elza Maloku to the Public
Relations Committee.
VILLAGE COMMISSION / ORGANIZA nON MEETINGS
Chairman Derek Steinweg passed around the sign up sheet for members to choose a Village commission /
organization meeting to attend and report on youth related issues. Members reviewed the dates and signed up for
various meetings. Agendas for the Commission meetings are posted on the Village website. Members
encouraged to attend upcoming Village meetings.
Daniel Milewski and Chairman Derek Steinweg attended the Coffee with Council meeting. David Strahl,
Assistant Village Manager, inquired if Youth Commission members would be interested in shadowing Village
employees to get a behind the scenes look at how the Village government operates. Members would be able to
choose the department they would be interested in shadowing. Chairman Steinweg to advise Mr. Strahl of
members interested in shadowing Village employees.
RECRUITMENT COMMITTEE
Adam Kiel, Nandini Roy, Merrily Ruetsche, Derek Steinweg
Chairman Derek Steinweg added Youth Commission member Merrily Ruetsche to the Recruitment Committee.
No April report for the Recruitment Committee.
OLD BUSINESS
YOUTH VIEW
Chairman Derek Steinweg advised the scheduled Youth View taping of Internet Safety / Identity Theft had to be
moved to Thursday, April 23, 2009. Elza Maloku and Emily Lindfors to host the program.
Adult Advisor Steven Polit advised placing the Youth View tapings on "Meetings on Demand", the Village of
Mount Prospect website. Chairman Derek Steinweg to contact Howard Kleinstein, Television Services, to
inquire about adding Youth View tapings to the Village website.

YOUTH RESOURCE CATALOG
Youth Commission members currently updating Youth Resource catalog. Completed updates should be
forwarded to Chairman Derek Steinweg upon completion Adam Kiel to compile all the updates.
Members discussed taking a Youth Commission group picture.
"STICK' EM UP!" !LCC PROJECT STICKER SHOCK EVENT
On April 2nd, 2009 the ILCC, as part of Project Sticker Shock, will be conducting a statewide public awareness
event. Youth Commission members to participate in the event with Adult Advisor Anthony Addante. Stickers
and window decals will be placed in Village liquor stores, grocery stores, gas stations, and other establishments
where alcohol is sold.
NEW BUSINESS
YOUTH AND THE ECONOMY
Youth Commission members to reach out to area youth in the community to discuss how they are dealing with
the stress associated with today's economy. Members to discuss their finding at the May meeting. Results to be
submitted to local and school newspapers, the Village newsletter, Downtown Merchant's Association etc. Elza
Maloku and Emily Lindfors to head the project.
ADDITIONAL YOUTH COMMISSION MONTHLY MEETING
Members discussed the possibility of having an additional meeting each month, the first and third Wednesday of
the month. Mayor Wilks advised public notice has to be posted, meeting room is available, and Village Clerk
Lisa Angell has to be notified for the additional meeting. Members to discuss the idea further at the May
meeting. Chairman Derek Steinweg to invite Village Clerk Lisa Angell to a Youth Commission meeting to
discuss the open meetings act.
OTHER BUSINESS
AUTISM AWARENESS
Joanne Prifti-Nicholas to attend future meeting to discuss Autism Awareness.
