AN ORDINANCE CREATING A TRAFFIC
COMMISSION AND DEFINING ITS DUTIES

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES
OF THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS:
SECTION 1. There is hereby established a commission of
nine (9) members to be known as the Traffic Commission. Said
Commission shall consist of nine (9) members to be appointed by
the President and Board of Trustees, who shall serve respective-
ly for the following terms: One for one (I) year; three for
two C~) years; two for three (3) years; two for four (4) years;
two for five (5) years. The successors to each member so ap-
pointed to serve for a term of five (5) years each and until
their respective successors are dUly appointed and qualified,
and vacancies in such members place shall be filled for the
unexpired term of the member whose place has become vacant in
the same manner as original appointments. One of such members
so appointed shall be named as Chairman at the time of his ap-
pointment. In addition to the members aforesaid, the incumbents
of the following offices shall be ex officio members of said
Traffic Commission herein created: The Mayor, the Chairman of
the Police Committee, the Police Magistrate, the Police Marshal
and the Superintendent of Public Works.
SECTION 2~ The Commission shall meet at least once a
month. Not less than five days notice of the time and place of
each meeting shall be given by the Chairman, and five (5) mem-
bers shall constitute a quorum. Written minutes of the meeting
of the Commission shall be kept and an annual report of its
accomplishments and recommendations shall be made by the Commis-
sion to the President and Board of Trustees. The Commission

shall make such other and additional reports from time to time
as may be directed by the President and Board of Trustees. The
Commission shall elect.a Secretary from among its regular mem-
bers.

. 1. To consider any proposed action of any Department of the
Village government involving problems of street safety and
traffic engineering, traffic law enforcement or public
safety education, or relating to the prevention of traffic
accidents or to the facilitation of the improvement of
traffic and to make recommendations to such departments or
agencies and to the President and Board of Trustees with
respect to such plans of action.
2. To receive and consider suggestions from any citizen or
public official for action by any department or agency of
the village government involVing problems of traffic, en-
gineering, traffic law enforcement, or public safety educa-
tion, or relating to the prevention of traffic accidents,
or to the facilitation of the movement of traffic and to
make recommendations to such departments and to the Village
Board with respect to such suggestions.
3. To formulate general policies with respect to the activities
of all departments of the Village government which affect
or relate to safety or traffic and to recommend such poli-
cites to the President and Board of Trustees.
4. To act in an advisory capacity with respect to any contem-
plated changes in the provisions of ordinances relating to
the control of traffic when requested by the President and .
Board of Trustees.
5. To make recommendations to the Village Board for necessary
legislation for the prevention and sUppeession of traffic
accidents.
6. To request of any department of the village for assistance
in the performance of its duties hereunder and it shall be
the duty of such department or departments to render such
assistance as may be reasonably required.

,. To exercise such other powers and to perform such other du-
ties as may be prescribed in any ordinance or ordinances of
the Village of Yount Prospect relating to the control of
traffic.
SECTION 5.. That this ordinance shall be in full force
and effect from and after its passage and approval.
