ORDINANCE NO. ~4 /
AN ORDINANCE REPEALING SECTION 64
AND AMENDING SECTIONS 67 and 69
OF CHAPTER VI OF THE ~lOUNT PROSPECT
BUILDING CODE OF 1938.

BE IT ORDAINED By the President and Board of Trustees
of the Village of Mount Prospect, Cook County, Illinois:
SECTION 1. That Section 64 of Chapter VI of the Mount
Prospect Building Code of 1938 (Ordinance 225), be and the same
is hereby repealed.
SECTION 2. That Section 67 of Chapter VI of the Mount
Prospect Building Code of 1938 (Ordinance 225) be and the same
is hereby amended to read as follows:
67. The permits required by this Ordinance
shall be obtained from the Building Inspector on
written application therefor by the person, firm,
or corporation erecting, constructing or maintain-
ing the billboard or signboard, and such applica-
tion shall be accompanied by the plans and specifi-
cations showing the size and character of such
proposed billboard or signboard, and location of
the same. If the said plans and specifications
shall be in accordance with the provisions of this
article, said Building Inspector shall thereupon
issue a permit for the erection of such billboard
or signboard upon the payment by the applicant of
a fee of ten cents (101) per square foot if such
billboard or signboard is not electrically lighted
or electrically wired. Provided that the minimum
fee for a non-electric billboard or signboard shall
be Two Dollars and Fifty Cents ($2.50).
Where any such sign is electrically wired
or electrically lighted, the fee for such permit
shall be Twenty Cents (201) per square foot, provid-
ed the minimum fee shall be Five Dollars ($5.00)
for any billboard or signboard electrically lighted
or electrically wired. The Building Inspector shall
not be obliged to issue a permit for the erection or
construction or maintenance of any billboard or
signboard in any location where said billboard or
signboard will or might constitute a dangerous ob~
struction to the view or a menace to the welfare of
persons on any highway, sidewalk, path or street
abutting thereon.
In determining the square foOtage for bill-
boards and signboards referred to in this section,

the over-all dimensions of such signboard or
billboard shall be measured.
SECTION 3. That Section 69 of Chapter VI of the Mount
Prospect Building Code of 1938 (Ordinance 225) be and the same

is hereby amended to read as follows:
69. The Building Inspector shall annually
inspect each and every signboard and billboard
to determine whether such signboard or billboard
and electrical equipment thereon, if any, is
erected, constructed and maintained in accordance
with the provisions of the Building Code of the
Village of Mount Prospect of 1938.
(a) The annual fee for the privilege of
maintaining signs and other advertising devices
not otherwise provided for, not electrically light-
ed or electrically wired shall be ten (10) cents
per square foot; and the annual fee for such signs,
electrically lighted or wired shall be twenty (20)
cents per square foot, provided the minimum annual
fee shall be Two Dollars and Fifty cents ($2.50)
per non-electric signs and Five Dollars ($5.00) for
such signs electrically lighted or electrically
wired; provided, further, that the maximum fee in
any event for such sign shall be Fifteen Dollars
($15.00) per year.
(b) The annual fee for the privilege of
maintaining billboards, posterboards, and signboards
shall be Three Dollars ($3.00) for each panel of
such signs.
(c) Inspection fees shall be due and pay-
able on the 1st day of May of each year. If said
fee is not paid within thirty (30) days of above
date, the Building Inspector reserves the right to
have the Fire Department remove or wreck such bill-
board or signboard and the cost of such work shall
be paid by the owner of the billboard or signboard.
SECTION 4. Any person, firm or corporation violating
any provision of this Ordinance or failb~to comply with any re-
quirements thereof, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable
by a fine of not less than Twenty Five Dollars ($25.00), nor
more than Two Hundred Dollars ($200.00), and each day such vio-
lations is permitted to exist, shall constitute a separate
offense.
SECTION 5. All Ordinances or parts of ordinances in

conflict herewith be and the same are hereby repealed.
SECTION 6. That this Ordinance shall be in full force
and effect forthwith upon its passage, approval and publication,
according to law.
