Mayor Wilks opened the meeting with general remarks and introduced Trustees and staff in
attendance. Wilks then moved to the resident portion of the meeting.
Carol Tortorello, South Elmhurst - Ms. Tortorello had general questions regarding the current
state of the economy and asked whether staff was monitoring spending and looking for
opportunities to cut costs. She also inquired about Village policy for PW vehicles idling while
parked. Finance Director Erb provided an update on what staff was doing to monitor revenues
and expenditures during this economic slowdown. The question regarding idling Village
vehicles would be referred to Public Works.
Jim Chylik, Locust - Mr. Chylik asked whether there was an opportunity for the Village to have
public access channels with satellite television providers. He also inquired about the upcoming
local elections. His final question had to do with the list of streets that were to be completed in
this year's street resurfacing program. Staff informed Mr. ChyUk that someone from the Public
Works Department would get back to him on the street listing.
Thomas Tezky - Mr. Tezky acknowledged receiving a notice from Code Enforcement for
needed repairs on his home. He noted that the work was in progress and that the problem will
be addressed. Mr. Tezky also informed the Village of a mailing he received from Cook County
with incorrect owner information listed. It was suggested that he contact the County directly to
have them update their records.
Laura Mahrenholz, Aspen Drive - Ms. Mahrenholz brought forward an issue she and her
neighbors were having with flooding from recent rains. She shared pictures of water collecting
in their backyards. Village Public Works staff had been out to inspect the property. Ms.
Mahrenholz was informed that the drainage issues resulted from clogged storm sewers. Since
the sewers belong to the Illinois American Water System she would need to contact their offices
for this work. The Village is not able to perform work on this private water system. Staff would
place a call to Illinois American Water on her behalf.
Kyle Romberg, Dresser - Mr. Romberg read in the Village newsletter an article regarding
property maintenance codes for maintaining compost piles. He had questions on compliance
with Village Code. General discussion followed. Staff was able to address his concerns.
Daniel Milewski, Barberry Lane - Mr. Milewski is a member of the Youth Commission and
was in attendance to observe. He was charged with bringing back what he learned to the next
Youth Commission meeting.
Betty Hanning, Robin Lane - Ms. Hanning requested help in addressing a water drainage
issue on her and adjacent properties. Ms. Hanning stated that the problems became more
apparent when a neighboring property placed an addition to their house and re-graded the
surrounding yard. After some discussion it was decided that the Village would send out Public
Works staff to look at the property and determine what the issues are.
Derek Steinweg, Pima Lane - Mr. Steinweg is a member of the Youth Commission and was in
attendance to observe. He was charged with bringing back what he learned to the next Youth
Commission meeting.
David Schein, Na-Wa-Ta Avenue - Did not have anything to bring to the group.
Tom Rogers, Waverly Place - Did not have anything to bring to the group, but was interested
in becoming involved on a committee of the Village. Was directed by the Mayor to submit an
application for future consideration, but that there were no open committee positions at the time.
Aleza Moore, Pawnee Lane - Ms. Moore left before being called for her questions/comments.
Mayor Wilks asked if there was any further business for the good of the Village. Hearing none
the meeting was adjourned at 10:37 a.m.
