ROLL CALL Secretary Cindy Rumore called the roll. ~ MOUNT PROSPECT YOUTH COMMISSION MINUTES FEBRUARY 04, 2009 APPROV AL OF MINUTES Daniel Milewski, seconded by Adam Kiel, moved to approve the minutes of the January 07, 2009 Youth Commission meeting with amendments. Motion carried by unanimous approval. PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMITTEE Eric Logisz, Daniel Milewski, Alex Oplawski VILLAGE COMMISSION / ORGANIZA TION MEETINGS Chairman Derek Steinweg passed around the sign up sheet for members to choose a Village commission / organization meeting to attend and report on youth related issues. Members reviewed the dates and signed up for various meetings. Agendas for the Commission meetings are posted on the Village website. Chairman Derek Steinweg and Daniel Milewski attended the Coffee with Council meeting. Daniel Milewski inquired as to why minors under the age of 18 can not purchase spray paint in Village business establishments. Mayor Wilks advised the Village has an ordinance prohibiting the sale of spray paint to minors. This was enacted to help eliminate damage to property from graffiti. RECRUITMENT COMMITTEE Adam Kiel, Nandini Roy, Derek Steinweg YOUTH COMMISSION FLYERS Chairman Derek Steinweg, Eric Logisz, Elza Maloku, Daniel Milewski, and Merrily Ruetsche participated in a Youth Commission informational presentation to students at River Trails Middle School on Thursday, January 22,2009. Approximately 15 students expressed interest in the Youth Commission. Chairman Derek Steinweg encouraged members to continue passing out Youth Commission flyers at their prospective schools. Nandini Roy to contact local schools / school districts for student statistics and forward the results to AlA George Clowes before the March meeting. OLD BUSINESS YOUTH VIEW Chairman Derek Steinweg and Nandini Roy hosted the January Youth View taping. AlA Anthony Addante participated in the program discussion about Peer Jury. Members discussed the topics: Searching for Colleges and Teen Driving for the next Youth View taping on February 25, 2009. Additional topics of Internet safety, drug use, summer jobs, and best of Youth View were suggested for future programs. YOUTH COMMISSION BUDGET Youth Commission decals and bracelets were distributed to members. 2 fSJ MOUNT PROSPECT YOUTH COMMISSION MINUTES FEBRUARY 04, 2009 NEW BUSINESS "STICK' EM UP!" ILCC PROJECT STICKER SHOCK EVENT Mayor Wilks forwarded the recent Illinois Liquor Commission (ILCC) newsletter to Youth Commission members. On April 2nd, 2009 the ILCC, as part of Project Sticker Shock, will be conducting a statewide event. Youth Commission members discussed participating in the event with AlA Anthony Addante. Stickers and window decals will be placed in Village liquor stores, grocery stores, gas stations, and other establishments where alcohol is sold. OTHER BUSINESS YOUTH RESOURCE CATALOG Elza Maloku and Adam Kiel to update Youth Resource catalog. AlA George Clowes suggested including the website of each organization to the catalog. YOUTH COMMISSION RECOMMENDATIONS Youth Commission members discussed the liquor ordinance as it is currently being discussed by the Village Board. Chairman Derek Steinweg to follow-up with Mayor Wilks regarding the previous Youth Commission liquor ordinance recommendations sent to the Village Board. MOTION TO ADJOURN Adam Kiel, seconded by Nandini Motion carried by unanimous approval. Roy, moved to adjourn the meeting. MEETING ADJOURNED Chairman Derek Steinweg adjourned the meeting at 8: 10 p.m. 3
