AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 5 OF THE
~IDNICIPAL CODE OF MOUNT PROSPECT OF

DITIONS THEREr:L10
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES
OP THE VILLAGE OP IJIOUlyr PROSPECT, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS:
Section 1: Chapter 5 of the Municipal Code of
Mount Prospect of 1957, as amended, be and the same is
hereby amended by addine the following:
llArticle VIr Board of :8'1re and Police
COITllYlissioners.
II Sec tion 5.701 IJIembership. There is here-
by created a Board of Fire and Police Co~~issioners
which shall consist of three (3) members who must
be residents of the Village of Mount Prospect. The
members shall be appointed by the President of the
Village vdth the consent of the Board. of Trustees.
llSection 5.cr02 rrerm. The term of office
shall be three (3) years and until their respec-
tive successors are appointed and have qualified.
However, in the case of the first appointments,
one of the members shall be appointed to serve
until the end of the then current municipal year,
anotner to serve until the end of the municipal
year next ensuing, and a third to serve until the
end of the municipal year second next ensuing; but
every member shall serve until his successor is ap-
pointed and. has qualified.
llSection 5.703 Duties.
(a) The Board of Fire and Police Con~issioners
shall have those duties as are prescribed by the
Illinois statute, Chapter 2L~, Section 14-1 through
17, and any amendments thereto which may hereafter
be adopted;
(b) The Board of Fire and Police Con~issioners
shall appoint all officers and members of the Fire
and Police Departments of the municipality except the
Chief of Police and the Chief of Fire Department, each
of whom shall be appointed by the President of the
Board of Trustees with the consent of the Board of
Trustees as provided in Chapters 0 and 7 of this Code.
(c) 'rhe Board of Fire and Police Cormnissioners
are hereby authorized to malee such rules and reGula-
tions as to carry out the purpose of this Ordinance
and statute applicable thereto. All said rules and
regulations snail comply with this Village Code unless

otherwise required by Illinois statute. All said
rules and regulations shall be published as re-
quired by statute.
(d) r:L1he Board of Fire and Police Commissioners
shall annually, on or before the 15th day of March
of each year, submit to the Village President a re-
port of its activities and the rules and regulations
in force and practical effect thereof and any sugges-
tions which the Board believes would result in grea-
ter efficiency in the Fire or Police Department. The
President shall thereafter transmit the report to
the Village Board for their consideration.
llSection ~.704 Secretary of the Board.
(a) The Board shall designate one of its own
members to act as secretary. The secretary shall
Keep the minutes of the Board1s proceedings; shall
be the custodian of all papers relating to the busi-
ness of the Board; shall Keep a record of all exam-
inations held, and shall perform such other duties
as ~he BOdrd may from time to time prescribe.
(b) The secretary shall be paid such reason-
able compensation for his services as from time to
time fixed by the Board of Trustees. The Board of
Trustees may also fix such compensation as d.eemed
necessary and adequate for the other members of the
Board. In the absence of any action by the Board
of rrrus tees, the members of the Board of Fire and
Police Cormnissioners shall serve without compensa-
tion.
Section 2: That this Ordinance shall be in full
force and effect from and after its passage and approval
according to law.
