AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTIONS 22.301
AND 22.302 OF ARTICLE III, CHAPTER 22
OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF MOUNT PROSPECT
OF 1957 AS AMENDED
WHEREAS, it has been determined by the municipal
authorities of the Village of Mount Prospect that it is in
the interest of public health and welfare to establish in
greater detail the septic tank requirements for single
family residences substantially as established by the Cook
County Department of Public Health,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE PRESIDENT
AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT,
COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS:
Section 1: That Section 22.301 of Article III,
Chapter 22 of the Municipal Code of Mount Prospect of 1957
as amended, be and the same is hereby amended to and shall
hereafte~ read as follows:
"Section 22.301 Requirements. Every building
or structure in the Village used for residence,
business, trade, industry or meeting purposes shall
be equipped with properly constructed and installed
adequate sewage disposal facilities. The plumbing
in all such places shall conform to the ordinances
of the Village and the laws of the State relative
thereto.
"Any such premises not connected with a sani-
tary sewer system shall be equipped with an adequate
septic tank; such tank shall have a capacity of not
less than 750 gallons for each seven or less persons
living or working in such place; and an additional
75 gallons for each person in excess of seven;
provided that the tank in any premises used for
meeting purposes shall have a capacity of not less
than 1,500 gallons."
Section 2. That Section 22.302 of Article III,
Chapter 22 of the Municipal Code of Mount Prospect of 1957
as amended, be and the same is hereby amended to and shall
hereafter read as follows:
"Section 22.302 Construction Regulations.
A. Single Family Residences. All septic tanks
for single family residences shall be constructed
and conform to the requirements, standards
and specifications established by the Cook

County Department of Public Health, Division of
Sanitary Engineering, as set forth in Bulletin
No.1, Revised May, 1956, and specifically incor-
porating herein by reference Sections 2 through 6
inclusive, and Sections 18 through 51 inclusive,
all of which aforesaid sections are made a part
hereof. Wherever septic tank requirements are
specifically set forth in ordinances of the Vil-
lage and not specifically duplicated by the said
requirements of the County, they shall apply also
to septic tanks for single family residences and
any doubt concerning the application thereof shall
be considered in favor of requiring the most effec-
tive sanitation system.
B. For Other Than Single Family Residences.
Eacb such tank shall be located at least twenty
feet from any building, and shall be constructed
of twelve gauge steel, monolithic concrete, or of
brick or'concrete blocks adequately coated inside
so as to be impervious to water. Baffle shall be
located from 6tt to 9tt away from the inlet and out-
let and must extend 12" beneath the sewer level in
the tank. Each tank must be equipped with a man-
hole or similar suitably covered opening to permit
inspection or cleaning.
The feeder sewer from the tank to the
laterals of the disposal field shall be constructed
of vitrified bell-and-spigot tile with cemented
joints and shall be laid with a grade of one foot
per 100 feet; disposal field tile shall be located
at least 75 feet distant from any well and ten feet
from the tank, and 30 feet from any building used
for human habitation. No lateral shall be closer
than five feet to any lot line. There shall be at
least 200 feet of disposal field tile, consisting
of 4tt drain tile laid with~, open joints. Disposal
tiles shall be laid to a depth of not more than two
feet on a slope not to exceed 61f per 100 feet.
Backfill in the trench under the tile shall
be at least 6" of coarse gravel or crushed stone.
Earth backfill shall be well tamped.
No septic tank or any pipes leading to or
from the same shall be covered unless and until such
tank and pipes have been inspected and found to be
in compliance with the ordinances of the village and
with the state laws pertaining thereto."
Section 3: That this Ordinance shall be in full
force and effect from and after its passage, approval and
publication according to law.
Section 4: That all ordinances or parts of ordi-
nances in conflict herewith be and the same are hereby re-
pealed, reserving however, to the Village of Mount Prospect

any rights which have accrued to it against any person, firm
or corporation under any ordinance, or sections of ordinances
which may be and are hereby repealed.
