Northwest Highway Mount Prospect, Illinois 60056 MINUTES October 13,2008 Public Safety Building Fire Department Conference Room Chairman Busse called the meeting to order at 6:04 p.m. Roll Call: George Busse, Chairman Charles Bennett, Commissioner Hank Friedrichs III, Commissioner (arrived at 6:18 p.m.) James Powers, Commissioner Michaele Skowron, Commissioner Also Present: Michael Figolah, Fire Chief John Dahlberg, Chief of Police John Malcolm, Deputy Fire Chief APPROVAL OF MINUTES A motion was made by Commissioner Skowron and seconded by Commissioner Busse to accept the minutes of the September 2, 2008, Open Meeting. Voice Vote: Ayes: Busse, Skowron Nays: None Abstain: Bennett, Powers Motion Carried A motion was made by Commissioner Skowron and seconded by Commissioner Busse to accept the minutes of the September 8,2008, Special Meeting. Voice Vote: Ayes: Busse, Skowron Nays: None Abstain: Bennett, Powers Motion Carried CONTINUATION OF ORIENTATION FOR NEW MEMBERS OF THE BOFPC This topic was postponed to the next meeting. CLOSED SESSION A motion was made by Commissioner Skowron and seconded by Commissioner Powers to go into Closed Session under personnel 5 ILCS 120/2 (c)(1) at 6:06 p.m. Roll Call: Ayes: Busse, Bennett, Powers, Skowron Nays: None Motion Carried The Board reconvened at 6:37 p.m. Commissioner Friedrichs arrived during Closed Session at 6: 18 p.m. A motion was made by Commissioner Skowron and seconded by Commissioner Bennett to accept the Fire Chief's recommendation not to extend employment to three individuals. Voice Vote: Ayes: Bennett, Busse, Powers, Skowron Nays: None Abstain: Friedrichs Motion Carried Page 2 Minutes 10/13/08 A motion was made by Commissioner Skowron and seconded by Commissioner Bennett to accept the Police Chief's recommendation not to extend employment to four individuals. Voice Vote: Ayes: Nays: Bennett, Busse, Friedrichs, Powers, Skowron None Motion Carried FIRE DEPARTMENT UPDATE There are three (3) openings in the Fire Department. Chief Figolah asked the Board to select a date to interview six (6) individuals for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic. The Board agreed to October 21st at 7:15 p.m. Chief Figolah presented the Board with the proposed Fire Department Testing Dates for 2008-2010 for approval. (See Attached) The Fire Chief provided a brief overview of the new testing process. A motion was made by Commissioner Friedrichs and seconded by Commissioner Bennett to accept the Fire Department's testing schedule through the spring of 2010 subject to the oral interview dates being tentative Voice Vote: Ayes: Bennett, Busse, Friedrichs, Powers, Skowron Nays: None Motion Carried POLICE DEPARTMENT UPDATE Chief Dahlberg reported on department staffing. Candidate #1 was hired on Se~tember 23rd The Chief asked if a Commissioner would be available to swear-in two new officers on October 20t at 9:00 a.m. OTHER BUSINESS The next meeting will be held on November 3rd at 6:00 p.m. Chairman Busse reminded Board members to turn in their registration forms for the Illinois Fire and Police Commissioners Conference. Chief Figolah requested dates for the Fire Department oral Interview training session. The Chairman asked the Fire Chief to contact Stanard for dates in December.
