RESOLUTION NO. 1 - 96
A RESOLUTION NOTING THE PASSING OF JACK KEEFER
WHEREAS, JACK KEEFER and his wife Helen were residents of the Village
of Mount Prospect for the past 40 years, having built their dream home in
Mount Prospect where they raised their 5 children; and
WHEREAS, JACK KEEFER served his country during World War II, being a
very proud member of a PT Boat Squadron from 1941 through 1945, serving
on PT 332; and
WHEREAS, JACK KEEFER, a registered pharmacist, opened his first drug
store, Keefer's Pharmacy, in Mount Prospect located on Northwest Highway,
and later moved his business across the railroad tracks to Prospect Avenue,
where he operated the business and made hundreds of friends for over 50
years until he entered into semi-retirement; and
WHEREAS, during his many years as a Pharmacist, JACK KEEFER was
honored by his peers, having been named Pharmacist of the Year in the State
of Illinois in 1973 and recipient of the Bowl of Hygia; and
WHEREAS, JACK KEEFER was an active member in numerous organizations
as well many community events, some of which include: beginning the annual
tradition of the Mount Prospect July 4th Parade in 1952 and having served in
the capacity of parade starter for the past 10 years, devoting his time to
display the flags along the parade route; organizing the Memorial Day Parade
and memorial services for the past 20 years; participated in local high school
Career Days, resulting in many students going on to become pharmacists,
doctors, and other related occupations; provided photography services for
Paddock Publications; wrote, printed and distributed the Luxembourg News of
America which he distributed to thousands of subscribers both in the United
States and abroad; member of the Mount Prospect Historical Society; member
and officer of the Mount Prospect Chamber of Commerce; member and officer
in the American Legion, having served as Commander for 3 terms during his
50 year membership; member and officer in VFW Post 1337, where he served
three terms as Commander; member of the Mount Prospect Lions Club,
having served as President and all other positions in that civic organization;
and
WHEREAS, JACK KEEFER continued to help his fellow man even during his
own illness, tending to the needs and comforting fellow patients whose needs
he determined were more demanding than his own; and
WHEREAS, as a result of his dedicated involvement, interest, generosity,
kindness and giving nature, JACK KEEFER was affectionately, and rightfully
so, dubbed "Mr. Mount Prospect"; and
WHEREAS, the Village of Mount Prospect is a better and richer community
s a whole because of the many contributions of JACK KEEFER and those
who had the pleasure of knowing him are better and wiser for the experience.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND BOARD OF
TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT, COOK COUNTY,
ILLINOIS:
SECTION ONE: That the Mayor and Board of Trustees of the Village of
Mount Prospect do hereby acknowledge the many contributions of JACK
KEEFER and do hereby express deepest sympathy to his family on his
passing.
SECTION TWO: That a copy of this Resolution shall be suitably prepared
and presented to the family of JACK KEEFER.
SECTION THREE: That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect from
and after its passage and approval in the manner provided by law.
AYES: Trustees Clowes, Henddcks, Hoefert, Skowron, Wilks, Farley
