HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes 26-96 10/01/1996 Resolution No. 26-96 A RESOLUTION ACKNOWLEDGING THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF MICHAELE W. SKOWRON WHEREAS, Michaele W. Skowron has been a resident of the Village of Mount Prospect for the past 26 years; and WHEREAS, Michaele W. Skowron has been an active, caring and giving friend, neighbor and citizen throughout her many years in the Village; and WHEREAS, her civic involvement has included membership on many community-based organizations including the Mount Prospect Friends of the Library, Mount Prospect Historical Society, the Mount Prospect Arts Council Steering Committee, the Mount Prospect Bicentennial Committee and the Mount Prospect 75th Anniversary Committee; and WHEREAS, Michaele W. Skowron has also served to strengthen her community's educational system as an elected official of the School District 57 Board of Education from 1977 to 1989 including service as President of the School Board from 1979 to 1989; and WHEREAS, Michaele W. Skowron has also been intimately involved in the thoughtful development of Mount Prospect through her service on the 1980 Mount Prospect Citizen Review Committee of the Comprehensive Plan and as a member of the Mount Prospect Zoning Board of Appeals from 1990 to 1993; and WHEREAS, Michaele W. Skowron has most recently served the Village of Mount Prospect as a Trustee since 1993; and WHEREAS,Michaele W. Skowron has always exhibited the highest degree of fairness, compassion and reasoned thought in all of her deliberations regarding Village matters thereby providing leadership and direction to her fellow Board members; and WHEREAS, Michaele W. Skowron has always had as one of her basic tenants serving the best interest of the entire community; and WHEREAS, Michaele W. Skowron now finds that she must step down as a Village Trustee due to an archaic State Statute which does not provide a reasonable degree of flexibility in allowing elected officials to serve their community and maintain gainful employment; and -~ WHEREAS, the Village, as a result of this archaic State Statute, will lose the benefit of an outstanding Trustee, a caring citizen and a principled individual. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT, COOK COUNTY ILLINOIS; SECTION ONE: It is with our deepest regret and sorrow tha{ your current term as a Village Trustee must come to an end because of the unintended consequences of an archaic State Statute. SECTION TWO: The Mayor and Board of Trustees, along with the community as a whole, thank you for your tireless and unselfish devotion to public service and the betterment of the whole of Mount Prospect. SECTION THREE: You are hereby strongly encouraged to remain an active member of this community so that your wisdom, logic and foresight can continue to be of benefit to the Village of Mount Prospect. SECTION FOUR: The Village will use its best efforts to remove the current impediments in the State Statute which might without good reason disqualify able- bodied, ethical members of the community from serving their village. SECTION FIVE: That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval in the manner provided by law. AYES: Mayor: Gerald L. Farley Trustees: George A.
