HomeMy WebLinkAbout08/03/2026 Special Events Commission MinutesVillage of Mount Prospect Special Events Commission Meeting Minutes — August 3, 2026 Mount Prospect Village Hall Members in Attendance: Brian Lambel (Chair), Katie Cousino, Chris Gordon, Vicki Chung, Jeannie Macatangay, Patti Quill, Denise Peterson, Laura Young, Fred Steinmiller, Bill Grimpe, Kylie Cerk (Staff Liaison) Absent: Daniel Okafor, Alan Cervenka, Christina Greco, Hazel Oreluk, Jenna Olsen 1. Call to Order at 7:05 pm 2. Citizens to be Heard a. None 3. Approval of Minutes a. Motion to approve the July 6, 2026, meeting minutes by Commissioner Chung; Second by Commissioner Gordon i. In Favor —All ii. Opposed — None 4. Financial Reports a. Motion to approve July 2026 financial reports by Commissioner Quill; Second by Commissioner Chung i. In Favor —All ii. Opposed — None b. Liaison Cerk reported that the Village is currently working on submitting budget proposals for 2027. 5. Old Business a. Family Bike Ride 2026 i. Commissioner Quill reported that Public Works had a slight modification to the route to avoid any major streets. ii. Liaison Cerk reported that she made a social media post earlier in the day that is generating a lot of new signups. At the time, there were 89. iii. Commissioner Quill reaffirmed that Police and Public Works are set. Public Works plans to arrive around 7:45 am. Commissioner Cousino will set up the sponsor flags. iv. Commissioner Quill will arrange a Costco run for day -of supplies and drop off the arrows and construction horses. v. Commissioners Cousino, Chung, and Gordon volunteered to market the event at the next Farmers Market. vi. Commissioners Cousino, Macatangay, and Young volunteered to distribute door hangers to the surrounding homes after the Farmers Market. Liaison Cerk will print the flyers in house, and Public Works will provide door hanger bags. vii. Chairperson Lambel volunteered to put together the giveaway bags. b. Spooktacular Halloween Decorating Contest 2026 i. Commissioner Chung stated that the categories will remain the same this year. ii. Commissioner Chung also reported that registration will run from September 19-28. Judges will cast their votes by October 25, and winners will be announced on October 27. iii. Commissioner Chung is interested in using the new online system that was used for the holiday decorating contest, but she requested that People's Choice voting return to Facebook. People's Choice would run from October 22-26. c. Kindness Week 2026 i. Commissioner Cousino reported that Kindness Week will be November 8-15 this year. ii. Commissioner Cousino stated that the Library offered to once again host the kickoff event, which would be November 7 this year. She will work with the Park District to secure a second location. iii. Once again, the Park District will provide design services. iv. Commissioner Cousino stated that she will be changing things up this year and creating a bingo card that is more accessible to everyone. d. Platinum & Gala Sponsors i. Chairperson Lambel stated that there is an opportunity to start securing sponsorships earlier than last year. ii. He suggested adding something special for platinum sponsors, such as a bag with all of their logos on it that would be used at events throughout the year. 6. New Business a. None 7. Any Other Business a. Commissioner Quill requested that the Shining Stars Gala be on the agenda for the next meeting. 8.
