Information
The Fire Department is requesting Village Board approval to purchase two Stryker Power
Pro 2 cots and two Stryker Power Load systems to replace the existing cot/load systems
assigned to Ambulance 524 and Ambulance 525. This purchase aligns with the ongoing capital
replacement plan and ensures compliant, reliable, and safe patient -handling equipment. This
is the second of a two-part CIP purchase. The first two cots/power loads were purchased in
2025. A total of $142,500 was budgeted for each purchase at that time. While the total cost in
2025 was $145,593.54., the price has increased and the total cost in 2026 will be
$163,826.60.
The Department first adopted Stryker Power Cot and Power Load systems in 2017, recognizing
their proven ability to reduce firefighter/paramedic injuries through powered lifting and
automated loading. These systems eliminate manual lifting of a loaded stretcher into the
ambulance, significantly decreasing physical strain while improving operational safety. Over
the past several years, this technology has demonstrated high reliability and measurable
ergonomic benefits for fire department personnel.
Stryker advises that the expected service life for both a Power Cot and Power Load system is
approximately seven years. Ambulance 524's stretcher/load system has exceeded this service
life, with its warranty expiring in November 2024. Ambulance 525's warranty is scheduled to
expire in December 2025.
The total cost for the purchase of two Stryker Power Pro 2 cots and two Power Load systems is
$163,826.60, which includes all equipment, accessories, shipping, and full ProCare warranty
coverage. The quote provides a combined trade-in credit of $13,000 ($5,000 for two existing
power cots and $8,000 for two existing power load systems).
Discussion
Alternatives
1. Waive the competitive bidding requirements and approve the purchase of two power cots
and power load system replacements for an amount not to exceed $163,826.60.
2. Action at the discretion of the Village Board.
Staff Recommendation
The Fire Department requests that the Village Board waive the formal bidding process and
approve the purchase of two Stryker Power Pro 2 cots and two Power Load systems, including
all equipment, warranties, shipping, and applicable trade-in credits for a total not to exceed
$163,826.60.
