Special Events Commission
Meeting Minutes — August 4, 2025
Mount Prospect Village Hall
Members in Attendance: Brian Lambel (Chair), Katie Cousino, Chris Gordon, Denise
Peterson, Vicki Chung, Patti Quill, Alan Cervenka, Bill Grimpe, Hazel Oreluk, Jeannie
Macatangay, Christina Greco
Absent: Fred Steinmiller, Daniel Okafor, Kylie Cerk (Staff Liaison)
1. Call to Order at 7:02pm
2. Citizens to be Heard
a. None
3. Approval of Minutes
a. Motion to approve the July 7, 2025, meeting minutes by Commissioner Grimpe;
Second by Commissioner Cervenka

4. Current Financial Report
a. Motion to approve by Commissioner Chung; Second by Commissioner
Macatangay

5. Old Business
a. Randhurst Winter Parade
i. Chairperson Lambel reported that he reached out to the Randhurst
Village representative but has not yet received a response. He will allow
until August 22, 2025, for a reply. Should the contact decline participation
in the Winter Parade, the Commission will begin exploring alternative
venues and options.
ii. The winter parade subcommittee will report any updates back to the
commission for discussion.
b. Kindness Week
i. The inaugural Mount Prospect Kindness Week will take place from
November 8-15, 2025. Commissioner Cousino will lead the initiative and
has distributed supporting documents to the Commission and Village staff
for review. Commissioners are asked to submit their feedback by August
22, 2025.
ii. Commissioner Cousino presented a motion to approve $1,000 in funding
for Kindness Week, to be used for the purchase of 200 bags, supplies,
and marketing materials. The motion was seconded by Commissioner
Mactangay.

6. New Business
a. Christkindlmarket 2025
i. Christkindl market 2025 will be on Wednesday, November 26, from 4PM to
7PM at the Village Hall. Commissioner Gordon has no new information to
share.
ii. Commissioner Macatangay inquired whether it would be a conflict of
interest for downtown Mount Prospect businesses to extend their evening
hours in conjunction with the Christkindlmarket. While the Commission did
not believe this would present a conflict, Commissioner Macatangay was
advised to consult with the Downtown Merchants Association and the
Village to obtain additional information and verify any applicable
regulations.
7. Any Other Business
a. National Night Out
i. National Night Out is scheduled for August 5, 2025. The Commission
determined that it is too late to participate in this year's event.
Chairperson Lambel will notify Staff Liaison Kylie Cerk to ensure the
Village is informed of the Commission's decision not to participate.
b. 2026 Shining Stars Gala
i. Commissioner Quill requested that the disbursement of $2,900 for the
Shining Stars Gala band be added to the September 2025 meeting
agenda. The Commission is required to pay 50% of the fee ($1,450) prior
to the event date on February 7, 2026, with the remaining $1,450 due
afterward.
c. 2025 Bike Ride
i. Chairperson Lambel requested that Commissioner Quill revise the
thank -you letter to the Mount Prospect Lions Club. He will provide a
redlined version of the document to her. Once the revisions are made,
Commissioner Quill will forward the updated letter to Liaison Cerk, who
will append Quill 's signature and send the final version to the Lions Club.
