Suicide Prevention Month PROCLAMATION National Suicide Prevention and Action Month September 2025 WHEREAS, with September being recognized as "Suicide Awareness Month," the National Suicide Prevention & Action Month Proclamation was created to raise the visibility of mental health and proactive suicide prevention resources in our community. WHEREAS, the Village of Mount Prospect recognizes the importance of starting the conversation, destigmatizing it, and helping connect people with the appropriate support services; and WHEREAS, suicidal thoughts can affect anyone regardless of age, gender, race, orientation, income level, religion, or background; and WHEREAS, global organizations such as Hope For The Day (HFTD), national organizations such as the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and local organizations like Suicide Prevention Services (SPS) are on the front lines of a battle to open minds, save lives, and restore hope; and WHEREAS, Hope for the Day states that 700,000 suicides are reported each year, and each one affects 100's of connections, friends, neighbors, and family; and WHEREAS, every member of our community should understand that throughout life's struggles, we all need the occasional reminder that we are all silently fighting our own battles; and WHEREAS, we can all help prevent suicide. Start the Conversation. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Paul Wm. Hoefert, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby proclaim the month of September as "Suicide Prevention and Action Month" and call upon all individuals to take time to understand mental health through education, and recognize that we need to take care of our mental health while we take care of each other.
