Kensington Road Mount Prospect, Illinois 60056 j BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS REGULAR MEETING February 3, 2025 OPEN SESSION MINUTES Phone (847) 870-5656 1 CHAIRMAN POWERS CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AT 5:45 PM AT THE POLICE DEPARTMENT CONFERENCE ROOM 2 Roll Call: James Powers, Chairman Rockne Bork, Commissioner Mark Busse, Commissioner William Knee, Commissioner Maria McCarthy, Commissioner Staff Present: Michael Eterno, Police Chief John Dolan, Fire Chief Thomas Wang, Deputy Fire Chief Lisa Schillinger, Executive Assistant 3 CITIZENS TO BE HEARD — none 4 FIRE DEPARTMENT UPDATE Fire Chief Dolan updated the Board on the Union special meeting which is scheduled for February 4, 2025 to ratify the new contract. The department is pleased with the contract negotiations. Once the three-year contract is ratified, the Village Board will vote to approve it. Chairman Powers asked if the attorneys were involved, and Chief Dolan stated they were. Additionally, the department welcomed guests, including State Representative Krishnamoorthi, to Station 11 for a tour. The department has applied for and been selected as a finalist for a grant. Notification of grant status will be sent by May. Two Firefighters who are currently in paramedic school will be graduating soon. 5 POLICE DEPARTMENT UPDATE Chief Eterno invited the Board to the State of the Village address on February 20th at 8am. Additionally, the department has three officers in the academy and graduation is April 24th. The feedback from the Academy is very positive. The department is currently in a new recruit hiring cycle which began in early January. The written examination is scheduled for April 5th and there are approximately 140 candidates. The deadline for pre -applications is March 21st. Due to the positive response, the venue is being changed from the Village Hall Community Room to accommodate the additional candidates. 6 CLOSED SESSION —CHAIRMAN POWERS ASKED FOR A MOTION TO GO INTO CLOSED SESSION A motion was made by Commissioner Bork and seconded by Commissioner Busse to go into Closed Session at 5:57pm. Motion Unanimously Approved All Commissioners and Staff present from Open Session were in Closed Session attendance. 6.1 Personnel 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(1) - The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee of the public body for the public body to determine its validity. Motion Unanimously Approved The Board returned to Open Session at 6:29pm. Roll call: Chairman Powers, Commissioner Bork, Commissioner Busse, Commissioner Knee, Commissioner McCarthy Also present: Michael Eterno, John Dolan, Thomas Wang and Lisa Schillinger 7 OLD BUSINESS - None 8 NEW BUSINESS 8.1. VOTE ON DETERMINATIONS MADE IN CLOSED SESSION AS TO WHICH FIREFIGHTER CANDIDATES TO REMOVE FROM CONSIDERATION AND THE HIRING PROCESS Commissioner Bork made a motion to remove Candidate A, as discussed in the Closed Session, from consideration and the hiring process and Commissioner McCarthy seconded the motion. Motion Unanimously Approved *The next regular meeting was moved from March 31 to March 101 at 5pm due to Stanard and Associates attending to discuss police interview questions with the Board. 9 ADJOURNMENT - With no further business, a motion was made by Commissioner Bork and seconded by Commissioner McCarthy to adjourn the meeting at 6:32pm.
