This year, the holiday runs from January 29 through February 4; and WHEREAS, each new year is paired with one of twelve zodiac animals: rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey rooster, dog or pig and 2025 is the powerful year of the Snake; and WHEREAS, the Year of the Snake is associated with wisdom, adaptability and prosperity. The year ahead encourages transformation, growth, and finding creative solutions to challenges; and WHEREAS, the Lunar New Year is celebrated uniquely in many different Asian countries but regardless of the country, culture, religion, or ethnicity, the day is a time for family reunions, gatherings, reaffirming bonds and reflection; and WHEREAS, the Village of Mount Prospect is home to a large and diverse Asian - American community that has contributed significantly to the social and economic vitality of the Village; and WHEREAS, the Village of Mount Prospect believes that celebrating diversity helps create a vibrant community in which all individuals and families feel welcome further embodying the Village's motto: Where Friendliness is a Way of Life. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Paul Wm. Hoefert, do hereby recognize January 29th through February 4th as "LUNAR NEW YEAR" in the Village of Mount Prospect and encourage all members of the communityto join me in this special observation by wishing all residents good health and prosperity as we welcome the new Lunar New Year.
