The ordinance allows for fire lane enforcement on private properties per Chapter 18 of the traffic code and is generally updated every five to ten years depending on development/annexation of properties. The ordinance codifies fire lanes and allows the Fire Department to enforce marking, signage, and striping (of fire lanes) and the Police Department for traffic enforcement of these fire lanes. The proposed updates to 18.2014 Schedule XIV: Fire Lanes were reviewed by the police and fire departments. Discussion Alternatives 1. Request board approval of the updated Fire Lane Ordinance. 2. Action as discretion of board. Staff Recommendation Staff recommends adopting the attached update to the fire lane ordinance to include new private properties that have been annexed and/or updated through development.
