The meeting was called to order at 5:38 p.m. by Chairperson Dorothy Kucera.
The minutes of July 10, 2008 were deferred to the next meeting.
Donations were announced - thanks to Paula and John Korn, Kiwanis donated $250, Lions $500 for the
upcoming visit of the Conservatoire.
Sister Cities International Culture Award
Rachel reported that Reta Brudd of Illinois Sister Cities attended the convention and accepted our award
on our behalf.
Bastille Day Concert
Judy Thorne reported that the concert went well. It was recorded for MPTV.
French Family Festival
Mary Ann Sibrava reported that the event was very successful. 115 people attended, all families.
Attendees were very enthusiastic and enjoyed the activities. She recommended doing it again. Rachel
thought there were more younger children this year, compared to previous years. Language Stars really
makes it work.
Oberweis Fundraiser
Judy Thorne reported that coupons were distributed at the Bastille Day Concert. Oberweis let us pass out
coupons at the store which really helped. Judy thanked all who helped by volunteering for the fundraiser.
The commission did received the 30% of sales. Another fund raiser suggestion was Community Days at
Carsons.
French Market
The French Market had to be rescheduled due to flooding the day before the event. It was rescheduled
for Oct. 12. Plan on rain date for future. Make sure to have at least 2 people staffing table.
Awards
An application is pending for Illinois Sister City of the Year award.
Conservatoire Visit/Play
Denise Rano reported that the host families are almost settled. 12 musicians will be coming. Pickup will
be Sunday, Oct. 26. Some expenses include lunches and train tickets. The schedule was discussed.
Wine Tasting
The wine tasting will be held Oct. 30 from 6 - 9 pm at Vino 100. The wines will be from the U.S.
Admission will be $10 and hors d'oeuvres will be served. Lorrie volunteered to help.

Other Business
Judy raised the idea of submitting a nomination for the Sister Cities Commission for a Shining Star Award.
Rachel volunteered to help.
Mayor Wilks will email Mayor Francois Kosciusko Morizet about a potential visit in 2009. Mayor
September is preferred.
