Rand Road, Mount Prospect, IL.} Meeting August 20, 2024 - REGULAR MEETING OF THE MOUNT PROSPECT VILLAGE BOARD Fiscal Impact (Y/N) Dollar Amount Budget Source Category MAYORS REPORT Type Action Item Information On Tuesday, May 7, 2024, Village team members including the Mayor, Village Manager, Community Development Director, and Executive Assistant met with owners Mr. Ron Weiland, Ms. Natalie Weiland and their financial management team to introduce their new pickleball franchise for Mount Prospect and request a Class "S-2" liquor license. The Class "S-2" license was expanded by the Village Board in June 2024 (Ord. 6471) to a Commercial Recreational Facility license which provides for the service of alcoholic beverages in an entertainment setting. Ron Weiland is the co-founder of North Shore Pickleball Group LLC and will head up day-to- day operations. He has extensive experience spanning Fortune 100 corporations, software sales, and two startup ventures. He has a unique blend of skills encompassing sales strategy, leadership, analysis, planning, and go -to -market expertise. Nancy Weiland, also co-founder of North Shore Pickleball Group LLC, will manage social media, marketing, and other functions for the company. The Picklr, is a national chain of top premier indoor pickleball facilities, which Weiland's have franchise rights to. Mount Prospect will be their first location with more openings in 2025. The Picklr will occupy the former Fresh Thyme grocery store. This 42,000 square foot state-of-the- art facility will host 14 indoor courts, including 12 regulation courts and two championship courts. It will also include a full pro shop and event space to host private events. The pro shop will feature a grab -and -go refrigerator of energizing snacks and freshly pre -made sandwiches, prepackaged salads and freshly cut fruit. Alcoholic beverages such as beer and wine will be available for purchase in the pro shop, with ID verification and payment to the pro -shop staff cashier for on -premises consumption only. The club plans to operate daily from 6:00 a.m. to midnight with alcohol sales restricted to after 8:00 a.m. in accordance with alcohol license regulations. A September 21St opening is anticipated. A completed application as well as all other required documentation is on file. Mr. & Mrs. Weiland have submitted a background check in association with the liquor license. As required by the liquor code, both have also completed a classroom certified liquor server course and all staff involved with the sale and service of alcohol will be Bassett certified. If the Village Board views this application favorably, an Ordinance creating a new Class "S-2" License would need to be adopted. Discussion Alternatives 1. Approve ordinance increasing the number of Class "S-2" liquor licenses. 2. Action at the discretion of Village Board.
