Earth day proclamtion 2024 PROCLAMATION ""EARTH DAY" April 22, 2024 WHEREAS, the environmental health of the planet continues to be threatened by global climate change, growing world populations, tropical deforestation, ocean pollution and toxic wastes requiring action by all sectors of society; and WHEREAS, the global community faces challenges such as health issues, food and water shortages, and economic struggles; and WHEREAS, all people, regardless of race, gender, income, or geography, have a right to a healthy, sustainable environment with economic growth and opportunity; and WHEREAS, we are all caretakers of our planet and have an obligation to combat climate change and environmental degradation to preserve the earth's beauty and resources; and WHEREAS, this year's Earth Day theme, "Planet vs. Plastics," calls to advocate for widespread awareness on the health risk of plastics, rapidly phase out all single use plastics, urgently push for a strong UN Treaty on Plastic Pollution, and demand an end to fast fashion; and WHEREAS, this year marks the 54th anniversary of the Earth Day movement and let it be known that the Village of Mount Prospect, encourages all businesses, institutions, and individuals to celebrate the Earth and commit to caring for the planet and its resources. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Paul Wm. Hoefert, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, Illinois, do hereby proclaim April 22, 2024 to be "EARTH DAY" and encourage the citizens of Mount Prospect to combat climate change and environmental degradation, support green economy initiatives, and to encourage others to build a plastic -free planet for generations to come.
