Special Meeting Minutes —July 10, 2023
Mount Prospect Police Department
Members in Attendance: Brian Lambel (Chair), Christina Greco, Alan Cervenka, Patti Quill,
Vicki Chung, Katie Cousino, Hazel Oreluk
Absent: Chris Gordon, Fred Steinmiller, Jeannie Macatangay, Daniel Frystak, Kylie Cerk (Staff
Liaison)
1. Call to Order at 7:03pm
2. Citizens to be Heard
a. None
3. Approval of Minutes — June 5, 2023
a. Motion to approve by Commissioner Greco; Second by Commissioner Oreluk

4. Current Financial Reports
a. Motion to approve by Commissioner Chung; Second by Commissioner Oreluk

5. Current Business
a. 4th of July Parade Recap
i. Payments made to participants day of - need to consider a better option
for tracking purposes
ii. Paint lines on edges of parade route to keep kids behind the line
iii. Good flow of parade order
iv. Check-in Booth for participants to check in and find placement
v. SEC should be on a float to promote our events
vi. Received complaints about Big Waters Federation - safety concerns with
participants dancing on the cab of the truck; Organizations were seen
aggressively throwing candy into the crowd and into the street - these
safety issues will be addressed with these organizations - considerations
for future rules and regulations
vii. Commissioners Cervenka and Peterson will send thank you notes to
participants
b. Farmers Market Booth
i. Great participation and feedback. No future participation needed.
c. Family Bike Ride
i. Commissioner Cousino is looking for assistance asking for donations
(small amount of gift cards to raffle off)
ii. Need assistance with registration and help to kick-off of the event
iii. Commissioner Quill to update on-site registration form
iv. Use remaining balance from Lions Club for giveaways and raffles
d. National Night Out
i. Commissioner Cousino requested $150 to spend on items to give away at
National Night Out
ii. Motion to approve by Commissioner Quill; Second by Commissioner
Cervenka

e. 2024 Shining Stars
i. Quote received from Olive Palace - pricing was discounted per plate
ii. Commissioner Quill to continue to follow up regarding contract and
invoice for deposit
iii. Ticket pricing to be determined, possibly lowered due to expenses being
lower
iv. Cost of band increase to $2,200 - band would play from 8 -Midnight,
including Jazz trio during cocktails
v. Commissioner Cousino recommended creating new categories - Inspiring
Places, Bridge Builder (diversity and inclusion), Educator/Coach of the
Year
vi. Release categories in August for nominations
vii. Consider having winners participate in the 4th of July parade
viii. Up to 8 winners total
ix. Commissioner Greco opened up the opportunity for others to participate
in the introductions at the Shining Stars at the event
x. Regarding awards, Commissioner Quill to reach out to MP Chamber to
determine award providers in the area
6. Next Meeting — Monday, August 7, 2023, 7pm at MP Police Headquarters
