HomeMy WebLinkAbout06/05/2023 SEC MinutesVillage of Mount Prospect Special Events Commission Meeting Minutes — June 5, 2023 Mount Prospect Police Department Members in Attendance: Christina Greco (Chair Pro Tem), Patti Quill, Kylie Cerk (Staff Liaison), Alan Cervenka, Daniel Frystak, Vicki Chung, Denise Peterson, Katie Cousino Absent: Brian Lambel (Chair), Chris Gordon, Fred Steinmiller, Jeannie Macatangay Members of the Public: Hazel Oreluk 1. Call to Order at 7:03pm 2. Citizens to be Heard a. None 3. Introduction of New Member a. Hazel Oreluk was introduced to the group as a new member of the commission being formally appointed the following day. 4. Approval of Minutes — May 1, 2023 a. Motion to approve by Commissioner Quill; Second by Commissioner Cervenka b. In Favor —All c. Opposed — None 5. Current Financial Reports a. Motion to approve by Commissioner Chung; Second by Commissioner Cousino b. In Favor —All c. Opposed — None 6. Old Business a. July Meeting Date i. Due to the 4th of July holiday, the Commission decided to cancel the regularly scheduled July 3 meeting. ii. A special meeting will be held on July 10, 7pm, at the Police Headquarters. Liaison Cerk will not be in attendance. Commissioner Quill volunteered to take minutes at the special meeting. iii. Motion to approve by Commissioner Cousino; Second by Commissioner Greco (Chair Pro Tem) iv. In Favor —All v. Opposed — None 7. Current Business a. Farmers Market Booth i. Commissioner Cousino stated that she would like to host another booth on June 25 with some improvements. The Commission discussed presenting the bike as a prize for the Family Bike Ride to draw attention. b. 4th of July Parade i. Commissioner Cervenka stated that 50 acts have already applied for the parade. ii. Commissioner Cervenka stated that they are looking for volunteers for the day -of. A meeting for commissioners will be held before the parade at 11:OOam near Busse Automotive. Liaison Cerk will send a request over email. iii. The Commission discussed ordering t -shirts to identify themselves at Village events. Commissioner Quill volunteered to research quotes. 1. Motion to approve t -shirt purchase of up to $350 by Commissioner Quill; Second by Commissioner Chung (Chair Pro Tem) 2. In Favor —All 3. Opposed — None c. Family Bike Ride i. Commissioner Cousino stated that the route has been approved by Public Works. ii. Commissioner Cousino asked Liaison Cerk to inquire with Village leadership on whether sponsors would be allowed for the event. d. Celebration of Cultures i. Liaison Cerk stated that volunteers will be needed for day -of, and it would be helpful if Commissioners could keep an eye out for potential cultural booth participants. e. 2024 Shining Stars - Venue & Awards i. Commissioner Greco stated that the food testing at Olive Palace went well and the final decision on venue will be based on price. Olive Palace and The Cotillion are on -hold for February 3. ii. The Commission discussed options for sponsorship levels and nomination categories. Further discussion will take place at the July meeting. 8.
