Special Events Commission
Meeting Minutes — May 1, 2023
Mount Prospect Police Department
Members in Attendance: Chris Gordon, Christina Greco, Brian Lambel (Chairperson), Patti
Quill, Kylie Cerk (Staff Liaison), Alan Cervenka, Daniel Frystak, Jeannie Macatangay, Fred
Steinmiller, Vicki Chung
Absent: Katie Cousino, Denise Peterson
Members of the Public: William Grimpe, Alex Phillipose
1. Call to Order at 7:05pm
2. Citizens to be Heard
a. William Grimpe introduced himself to the commission and was present to
observe the meeting.
3. Approval of Minutes —April 3, 2023
a. Motion to approve by Commissioner Greco; Second by Commissioner Cervenka
b. In Favor —All
c. Opposed — None
4. Current Financial Reports
a. Commissioners discussed outstanding invoices for Shining Stars Gala
sponsorships from Capannari's and Draft Picks. Chairperson Lambel and
Commissioner Gordon will follow up with the businesses.
b. Motion to approve by Commissioner Chung; Second by Commissioner Gordon

5. Current Business
a. 4th of July
i. Commissioner Cervenka stated that he and Commissioner Peterson met
with Village public safety departments to discuss the parade.
ii. Liaison Cerk will prepare a general safety statement on the 4th of July
Parade for Commissioners to reference and for the website page.
iii. Commissioner Cervenka stated that they are looking for volunteers for the
day -of. A meeting for commissioners will be held before the parade at
11:30am near Busse Automotive.
iv. The Commission discussed holding a special meeting in July since the
regularly scheduled meeting falls too closely to the 4th of July holiday. No
decision was made.
b. Family Bike Ride
i. Commissioner Gordon reported that the date of the bike ride is approved,
and he and Commissioner Cousino will next meet with Public Works and
public safety personnel. Commissioner Cousino is crafting the route.
ii. Rack cards will be disseminated at the Farmers Market on June 4.
Commissioner Cousino will arrive before 8am.
iii. The Commission discussed having a tablecloth and other signage
identifying the Special Events Commission.
iv. Commissioner Greco motioned to research and purchase signage for the
Special Events Commission, seconded by Commissioner Cervenka. All
were in favor and the motion passed.
v. Commissioner Quill volunteered to research options.
c. Celebration of Cultures
i. Liaison Cerk stated that volunteers will be needed for day-of, and it would
be helpful if Commissioners could keep an eye out for potential cultural
booth participants.
6. Open Floor / Commission Share
a. Shining Stars Gala Location
i. Commissioner Greco reported that she visited Olive Palace and Victoria
in the Park with Chairperson Lambel and Liaison Cerk.
ii. Commissioner Greco stated that Olive Palace has the ability to fit the
event needs logistically, but more research is needed. Liaison Cerk will
schedule a food tasting at the banquet hall.
iii. The Commission discussed the comparison between Olive Palace and
The Cotillion, noting that price will be the main factor.
iv. Commissioner Quill stated that pricing between the two venues should be
matched.
v. Commissioner Gordon stated that ticket prices for the event need to come
down and should also be factored into the decision.
vi. Commissioner Greco will do more research on pricing to get a fair
comparison.
b. Event Survey
i. Liaison Cerk reported that the Village is on-board with an event survey, as
is the Special Events Commission.
7. Next Meeting — Monday, June 5, 2023, 7pm at MP Police Headquarters
