Special Events Commission
Meeting Minutes—April 3, 2023
Mount Prospect Police Department
Members in Attendance: Katie Cousino, Chris Gordon, Christina Greco, Brian Lambel
(Chairperson), Patti Quill, Kylie Cerk (Staff Liaison), Denise Peterson, Alan Cervenka, Daniel
Frystak, Jeannie Macatangay
Absent: Fred Steinmiller

1. Call to Order at 7:02pm
2. Citizens to be Heard
a. None
3. Introduction of New Members
a. New commissioners Daniel Frystak and Jeannie Macatangay were introduced.
Also introduced was Vicki Chung, who was to be appointed to the Commission
the following week.
4. Approval of Minutes — February 6, 2023 (No meeting held in March due to lack of
quorum)
a. Motion to approve by Commissioner Greco; Second by Commissioner Cervenka

5. Current Financial Reports
a. Motion to approve by Commissioner Quill; Second by Commissioner Cervenka

6. Current Business
a. 4th of July
i. Commissioners Cervenka and Peterson noted that plans for the parade
are underway, and invitation emails with the parade application are going
out.
ii. Commissioner Frystak inquired about public safety precautions. Liaison
Cerk stated that a meeting will be set up with Mount Prospect's Police
and Fire Departments to discuss.
b. Family Bike Ride
i. Commissioner Cousino reported that the date of the bike ride is August
12, 8:30 AM kickoff and 9:30 AM start. Her next steps will be to get in
touch with public safety departments and Public Works.
ii. Commissioner Gordon expressed interest in reaching out to local bike
shops and potentially getting a bike donated. Commissioner Cousino
stated that there are enough giveaways left over from last year.
iii. For marketing, the Commission discussed engaging condo associations
and creating a rack card that can be passed out at the 4th of July parade
and the Farmers Market on June 4 and June 25.
iv. Chairperson Lambel stated that the Lions Club will provide a donation of
$500 for the event.
c. Celebration of Cultures
i. Liaison Cerk stated that the Village is seeking help from the Special
Events Commission on recruiting more countries to host booths.
7. Open Floor / Commission Share
a. Community Clean Up Day
i. Commissioner Cousino expressed interest in hosting a Village clean up
day in the spring.
b. Event Survey
i. Commissioner Frystak inquired about whether the Village of Mount
Prospect has any survey data related to current and new events. Liaison
Cerk noted that there is no such data. If approved by Village leadership,
Commissioner Frystak volunteered to assist with creating a survey.
c. Shining Stars Gala Location
i. Chairperson Lambel noted that the Commission will soon need to book a
banquet hall for next year's Shining Stars Gala. In order to explore all
available options, Chairperson Lambel, Commissioner Greco, and Liaison
Cerk made plans to tour Olive Palace and additional Mount Prospect
locations.
8. Next Meeting — Monday, May 1, 2023, 7pm at MP Police Headquarters
