Development Update
Mr. Cooney provided a brief update on various developments throughout the Village.
NEW BUSINESS
American Rescue Plan Act Update
Mr. Cooney provided an update on how the Village is using ARPA funds for three programs; the
New Construction Job Retention and Recruitment Program, the Green Building Grant Program
and the Website Development Program. He indicated that they have initiated the first two
programs and have received eight applications for the website program and two for the Green
Village of Mount Prospect | Page 2
Building Program to date. He stated that they had promoted the programs on the Village’s
website, social media and e-mail blasts to Chamber of Commerce members.
Business Visitation Program
Mr. Cooney stated that he was interviewing candidates for the Development Planner position that
has been vacant since Connor Harmon left back in the fall. He indicated that once the new staff
was in place that he intended to re-initiate the EDC business visits.
The group indicated that early morning visits were preferred so that they did not conflict with their
work schedules. The Commission agreed that the goal for the EDC is to make at least two visits
a month and to ensure that the visits were scheduled evenly throughout the Village.
Branding Plan
Mr. Cooney distributed the final Branding Plan that the Village Board approved back in early 2020,
just before the pandemic hit and put a hold on the program. He stated that the Village recently
hired a Director of Marketing to implement many of the suggested actions in the plan. In addition,
the soon to be hired Development Planner will assist with social media options to tout key projects
in the Village. He indicated that he would invite both new hires to the next EDC meeting to discuss
their plans and to solicit input from the commission.
2023 EDC Goals
The commission discussed their goals for the upcoming year and after much discussion agreed
that they would focus on restarting the business visitation program and implementing the branding
program.
