Special Events Commission
Special Meeting Minutes — February 6, 2023
Mount Prospect Police Department
Members in Attendance: Katie Cousino, Chris Gordon, Christina Greco, Brian Lambel
(Chairperson), Patti Quill, Kylie Cerk (Staff Liaison), Denise Peterson, Fred Steinmiller
Absent: Alan Cervenka
Members of the Public: Teresa VanOpdorp (Mount Prospect Chamber of Commerce), Paul
Carlstrom, Elaine Carlstrom
1. Call to Order at 7:05pm
2. Citizens to be Heard
a. None
3. Approval of Minutes — January 30, 2023 (Special Meeting)
a. Motion to approve by Commissioner Greco; Second by Commissioner Cousino
b. In Favor —All
c. Opposed — None
4. Current Financial Report
a. Liaison Cerk noted that due to the short timeline between the Gala and the
meeting, the financial report will still be undergoing changes in disbursements.
b. Commissioner Cousino inquired about receiving sponsor payment from
Wingspan. Payment has not been received yet and will be marked as pending.
c. Commissioner Gordon will follow up with sponsors whose checks were not
received yet.
d. Member of the public Teresa VanOpdorp (representative of the Mount Prospect
Chamber of Commerce) inquired about who printed the programs and the
step -and -repeat banner for the Shining Stars Gala. Mrs. VanOpdorp informed the
Commission of a Mount Prospect business, United GMG, that has the ability to
print the banner. The Commission will consider using them next year.

5. Current Business
a. Shining Stars Gala
i. Commissioner Greco commented on how great the Gala went.
ii. Commissioner Cousino would like to send a "thank you" email to
sponsors. The letter can be worked on with Liaison Cerk.
iii. Commissioners agreed that next year there needs to be something in
place where people can provide information on their table requests and
dietary restrictions.
iv. Commissioners discussed changing or reimagining some of the award
categories, along with reconsidering the Gala's location.
v. The Commission would like to have a booth at the Farmers Market to
promote next year's event. A rack card with the Commission's events will
be passed out at the booth.
vi. Member of the public Teresa VanOpdorp (representative of the Mount
Prospect Chamber of Commerce) commented that one of the sponsor
logos was incorrect. Chairperson Lambel asked Mrs. VanOpdorp to
provide him with written details over email so the issue may be addressed
and remedied.
b. Recruitment
i. The Commission discussed how to fill the seven vacant seats. Liaison
Cerk will encourage applicants through social media and other Village
communications tools. Sharing the news via word of mouth was also
considered.
ii. Members of the public Paul and Elaine Carlstrom inquired about how to
join the Commission, what membership entails, and whether there are
volunteer opportunities. Liaison Cerk will send the application to Mr.
Carlstrom as he considers whether he would like to join the Commission.
c. Upcoming Events
i. Irish Fest
1. Chairperson Lambel inquired if the Commission had interest in
hosting an Irish Fest in the future.
2. Member of the public Teresa VanOpdorp (representative of the
Mount Prospect Chamber of Commerce) commented on the
Commission's intent to discuss Irish Fest, as it is a Chamber of
Commerce event. Mrs. VanOpdorp stated that the Chamber
intended to change the name to Spring Fest, and it was not being
held this year.
ii. 4th of July
1. Commissioner Peterson, along with Commissioner Cervenka, will
take the lead on planning.
2. Commissioner Peterson will reach out to former Commissioners
who planned the parade in the past to gather any information they
have.
iii. Spring Bike Ride
1. Commissioner Gordon is working on tentative routes and dates for
the bike ride on the northern end of Mount Prospect along with a
second bike ride in a different area.
2. August 19 or 26 are being considered for the first bike ride.
iv. Celebration of Cultures
1. Commissioner Peterson and Commissioner Cervenka volunteered
their time to assist the Village with last year's Celebration of
Cultures. Commissioner Peterson volunteered for this year as
well.
2. Liaison Cerk will update the Commission on what type of
involvement will be needed to support the Village with the event.
6. Open Floor / Commission Share
a. Discussion regarding meeting date and time
i. Commission agreed to continue meeting on the first Monday of the month
at 7pm at the Police Headquarters
7. Next Meeting — Monday, March 6, 2023, 7pm at MP Police Headquarters
