WHEREAS, National Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates the Hispanic
community and highlights its countless achievements; and
WHEREAS, the observation began in1AG8ayHispanics Heritage Week
under President Lyndon B.Johnson, and was enacted into federal law
nnAugust l7,1Q88,calling upon all the people ofthe United States to
observe this time with ceremonies, activities, and programs; and
WHEREAS, September 15 through October 15 is recognized as
National Hispanic Heritage Month, which is a time to honor the
invaluable ways Hispanics contribute tnour common goals, celebrate
their diverse cultures, and 1uwork towards astronger, more inclusive,
and more prosperous society for all; and
WHEREAS, this year's theme, "TuduySmmos,SomoyUno:VVeAre All,
VVeAre One" recognizes the need for solidarity and cooperation across
diverse groups, especially atatime when societal divisions seem more
noticeable; and
WHEREAS, Hispanics have enhanced and shaped our national
character with centuries old traditions that refect the multi-ethnic
and multicultural customs of their communities, while adding their
own distinct and d9mannicperspectives tothe story ofour country; and
WHEREAS, Hispanic Americans represent significant amd growimg
demographic of the Village of Mount Prospect, we honor the
invaluable ways they contribute toour Village and community; and
NQVV THEREFORE, 1, Paul Wm. Hoefert, Mayor of the Village of
Mount Prospect, do hereby proclaim September 1G—October 15,
2023 as
