PROCLAMATION
FAIR VIEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
2008 BLUE RIBBON
SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE
WHEREAS, Fairview Elementary School serves the educational needs of
children in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade in the Village of Mount
Prospect, Illinois; and
WHEREAS, The Blue Ribbon is the highest designation for both public and
private schools to receive; and the award commemorates Fairview Elementary
School's meeting the academic growth and adequate yearly progress goals set
forth in the No Child Left Behind legislation; and
WHEREAS, Fairview Elementary School was one (1) of the sixteen (16)
schools out of 4,000 Illinois schools to be nominated by the Illinois State Board
of Education for the 2008 award;
WHEREAS, Fairview Elementary School's outstanding achievement is the
result of caring teachers, support staff and hardworking students encouraged by
supportive families in a community "Committed to Student Achievement. "
WHEREAS, the President and Board of Trustees along with the entire
community congratulate the students, teachers, administrators, staff and
families of Fairview Elementary School on this outstanding achievement.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Irvana K. Wilks, Mayor of the Village of Mount
Prospect, hereby proclaim Fairview Elementary School a 2008 No Child Left
Behind Blue Ribbon School of Excellence.

PROCLAMA TION
"GREA T PROSPECTS DA Y"
NOVEMBER 6, 2008
WHEREAS, "GREA T PROSPECTS OVERTURE" was commissioned by Prospect High School Music
Director and Conductor, Patrick R. 0 'Connor and Composer, Dr. Richard Maltz, for the Village of
Mount Prospect and the Prospect High School Symphony Orchestra; and
WHEREAS, composed by Dr. Maltz, "GREAT PROSPECTS OVERTURE" is believed to be thefirst
piece of music ever written for the Village of Mount Prospect; and
WHEREAS, "GREAT PROSPECTS OVERTURE" is rich with the musical influences of the
Potawatomi Indians, Mount Prospect's original inhabitants and the German Lutherans who later
settled in the area; and
WHEREAS, "GREAT PROSPECTS OVERTURE" incorporates the Potawatomi Indian and Lutheran
musical styles in amicable coexistence; an opening theme of Native American influences with melodic
phrases of irregular length accompanied by rumbling drums and shakers; and a contrasting second
theme inspired by the Lutheran Chorale of short melodic phrases, simply harmonized and presented in
simple rhythm; following their orchestral journey, the two themes return simultaneously, celebrating
the commonality of the American Spirit; and
WHEREAS, during the 2008/2009 winter break the Prospect High School Music Department will visit
London, England and perform in the London New Year's Day Parade and Gala Concert Series; and
WHEREAS, an inspired and highly dedicated group of over 390 Prospect High School students
representing the Prospect Marching Knights, Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Choir will entertain
live audiences of more than half a million and a TV audience of more than 200 million broadcast
across five continents; and
WHEREAS, "GREA T PROSPECTS OVERTURE" will receive an international premier at the 2008
London Gala Concert, as Dr. Maltz presents the composition and its Mount Prospect connection; and
WHEREAS, under the direction of Mr. Patrick R. 0 'Connor, the extraordinarily talented Prospect
High School Symphony Orchestra will performfor the first time, "GREAT PROSPECTS OVERTURE"
at the November 6, 2008 Prospect High School Fall Concert.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Irvana K. Wilks, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, on behalf of the
Village Board of Trustees and a very proud community, do hereby proclaim November 6, 2008 to be
"GREAT PROSPECTS DAY"
in the Village of Mount Prospect, and I encourage all members of the Mount Prospect community to
support and experience the Prospect High School Fine and Performing Arts Department, a creative
environment where students work together toward a common goal of excellence.
